SUMMER UPDATE #1:
COVID-19 RESPONSE

Dear Prospective Usdan Families:

We understand there is an abundance of concern surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and our thoughts are with everyone affected.

As our communities continue to feel the increased impact of COVID-19, we want to reassure you that the health and safety of our faculty, staff and camp families is always our top priority. The Usdan team is carefully monitoring this developing situation and will follow the guidance of the New York State Department of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the American Camp Association while we plan and prepare for the start of camp this summer.

We hope your family is still considering Usdan for this summer; however, in an effort to mitigate uncertainty, we’re writing to let you know that should you choose to enroll on or after March 13th, you will receive a full refund as long as you withdraw before April 30th. Should you wish to further safeguard the investment, we will share recommendations for camp insurance providers in the coming days.

This is an evolving situation. Any new updates about Usdan programming as it relates to COVID-19 will be shared via email as well as on our website.

In the meantime, please refer to information from the CDC and take the appropriate precautions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, here are a few resources to help you discuss the situation with your children.

  • Parenting During COVID-19, Psychology Today
  • Coronavirus Video, BrainPop
  • Just for Kids: A Comic Exploring the New Coronavirus, NPR

We are invested in Usdan getting through this difficult time so your children have a wonderful place to create, explore, and be outdoors this summer. We are addressing every concern we can think of and hear about, but rely on you, our families, to tell us what's on your minds, so we can address it for you and for many others who likely share similar concerns. If you have questions, concerns or requests, please reach out to me at director@usdan.org. Our year-round staff is also available to answer any immediate questions via the chat function on our website during regular business hours.

I wish you all health and peace in this challenging time,

Lauren Brandt Schloss, Executive Director
