Emory Health Kitchen Collaborative now recruiting participants
The Emory Healthy Kitchen Collaborative, which began in 2019 with a PCC-funded grant, has secured funding for a 2021 virtual program that combines educational information with hands-on learning in nutrition, culinary arts, exercise, yoga, mindfulness, and sleep. It is open to Emory benefits-eligible employees and is also a clinical trial. Recruitment for the 2021 cohort ends January 31. FIND OUT

Pipeline Committee Survey coming soonKeep an eye on your email for an important survey from the Pipeline committee for all Emory primary care providers. The survey, which seeks information about barriers to precepting during the COVID-19 pandemic, will be used to set committee priorities for 2021.
William T. Branch Jr. Innovations in Primary Care lectureThe inaugural William T. Branch Jr. Innovations in Primary Care lecture took place virtually on October 6, 2020. Over 100 virtual attendees Zoomed in as Keynote speaker Danielle Ofri, MD, Ph.D., clinical professor of medicine at the NYU School of Medicine delivered a talk on "What Patients Say, What Doctors Hear." The PCC sponsored a virtual door prize, giving away 30 copies of Dr. Ofri's book of the same title. FIND OUT MORE >
Family Medicine Interest Group panel The Family Medicine Interest Group held their first virtual "What is Family Medicine?" event on November 2, 2020. Between 30-40 medical students participated and heard from a panel of providers (pictured below) who covered a wide range of topics.
The keynote speaker was Dillon Miller, MD, who spoke about rural medicine and the experience of being the only physician in a small rural West Texas hospital where he served as the medical director and nursing home director, covered the emergency room, and directed the rural health clinic. Smith takes new leadership positionsRyan Smith, MD is the new Assistant Director of Undergraduate Medical Education and the new Faculty Advisor for FMIG. Dr. Smith earned his MD at Emory School of Medicine and completed his residency in Family Medicine at Emory. He also served as co-chief resident. Dr. Smith joined the Emory faculty in summer of 2020.
Villalón-Gómez invited to National Summit on Family Medicine Residency EducationIn December 2020, José Villalón-Gómez MD participated in the National Summit on Family Medicine Residency Education. This summit focused on a “major revision” of the standards for Family Medicine residencies. Such major revisions are rare—at most every 10 years. This revision will determine the shape and promise of family medicine for the next generation.
This opportunity comes at a momentous time. Even before COVID-19 and renewed attention on social justice and health disparities, the amplitude and pace of transformation of health care in the US has been greater than any time in our careers. Life expectancy has begun to decrease, health indicators have not improved in any measurable fashion, and health inequities continue to plague us. FIND OUT MORE>
Shu and Turner named to 2021 WLA
Congratulations to Joel Shu, MD, MBA, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer at Emory Healthcare Network and LeShea Turner, MHA, Vice President of Primary Care and Emory Specialty Associates at Emory Healthcare for their acceptance into the Woodruff Leadership Academy for 2021. The mission of the WLA is to develop tomorrow's leaders so they are prepared to create, articulate, and achieve organizational vision for the benefit of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center. 12th Annual Faculty Education, Enrichment and Development Conference The Department of Medicine and Department of Pediatrics Offices of Faculty Development are pleased to present the 12th annual Faculty Education, Enrichment and Development (FEED) Conference. Through didactic presentations, panel discussions, and small group exercises, the half-day CME-accredited program provides learning opportunities for clinician educators, clinical researchers, and basic scientists of all levels.
