GORI Highlight:Dr. Christian Kang & Tommy ChoiRead our Q&A below of M-Card members who met at a GORI event and started doing business together! 1. How and where did you meet each other? Christian: I met Tommy at a GORI event. We were introduced to each other by a mutual friend. We immediately bonded and had a good time that night. Tommy: I met Christian at a GORI event last year. (I don't remember which one) This tall, good looking guy was a chiropractor and I could tell immediately that he is a nice guy. Later we became very good friends. 2. Tell us about your background Christian: I did my undergrad in Syracuse University, and completed my doctorate at New York Chiropractic College, Upstate New York. I did my internship and rotations at Levittown, Long Island and Stony Brook. worked at a private practice in Upper East Side for about 2 years. Tommy: 1. Professional investor: I run a hedge fund called Third Square Investments. Always excited to find great companies to invest in. 2. Social anthropology: I live in a foreign country for a month every quarter to observe and analyze the local societies through making friendships. 3. Giving back: I give a seminar once a month to teach people how to invest not gamble in the stock market. Also I share what I learned from my social study trips. 3. Can you tell us more about your practice? Christian: I'm a chiropractor specializing in postural and spinal restoration. My brother and I just opened our own practice in Flatiron, NYC this month. My specialization is very unique and different because I focus on correcting the cause of the problem instead of chasing the symptoms. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't mean that I don't address the symptoms. It's like fixing the alignment of a Ferrari. If the alignment is off, what's the point of keeping replacing the tires? Because your posture is the window to your spine, and your spine is the window to your health, your posture tells a lot about your health. For example, you can predict how you are going to age, or what type of health conditions you might develop later (or sooner) in your life. 4. What made you interested in investing in Christian’s business? Tommy: It's simple. Christian is a good chiropractor specialized in postural correction. I am a professional investor who is interested in getting a good posture for life. In January when I heard for the first time that he was planning to start his own clinic with his brother Damien who is also a chiropractor, I congratulated him first and wanted to see how they do their job as chiropractor. Later in April, I went 3 times with my coworker to his old clinic where he and Damien worked in the Upper East for an examination and treatments. We both quite liked his and his brother's work. Afterwards I learned their detailed business plan for a new clinic and their need for some funding to get it started. So it was not a difficult decision for me and my coworker to decide to fund their new venture. I am sure they will be doing well. 5. How did you end up working together? Christian: Honestly not really sure. Maybe Tommy saw something in me. It gave me a huge confidence and a boost when he told me that I would do just fine. Tommy: I work with people who I can have fun with. 6. How did you hear about GORI? Christian: I've known DJ for a long time. We used to play basketball at a league. So naturally I got invited to GORI events. Tommy: In 2012 after I moved to NYC from Boston. Friends of mine were talking about GORI events. I went once and met DJ. DJ and I became friends and I kept going since. 7. What value does GORI bring to people? Christian: GORI unites people from different fields. There are tons of young professionals in NYC and I think GORI is the number one platform to create a scene where people can gather, exchange their information and network. Tommy: GORI has done a great job for the Korean/Asian community in NYC. Simply, it makes people's life more enjoyable. More specifically, it connects people, provides fun events, helps people with career, helps people gain knowledge in what they are interested in. What more can we ask for. 8. Who should attend GORI events? Christian: Everyone. Tommy: Anybody. Young, old, single, married, with career or no career, everyone who has a good heart should come to the event.
