Our class has been learning about Isirika. We first learned about Isirika from a TED Talk given by Musimbi Kanyoro. She told about her mother and the contributions she made to education in a small village in Kenya. You may watch the video at this link: Musimbi Yankora TED Talk. We are very excited to share our thoughts.
Isirika is teamwork, when a community works together for those who need help.
It inspired us to think about how we help
each other. Together, in our Literacy small groups, we work to complete assignments and solve problems in our classroom almost every day. In Science our small groups worked together to help each member make their Energy project successful. We did this by listening to each other and sharing ideas.
Isirika can be helpful in many places and ways. This could be in school, at work, in our community.
In Isirika you see the whole person first, before you see parts of a person, like someone who has disabilities or who is poor. Each person has contributions they can make to each other. Some people are talented at building things, some at organizing, others at artistic endeavors.
Some of our classmates have helped at soup kitchens. Currently, we are saving coins for Kindness, a charitable organization in Dushanbe. These things make a difference in other people’s lives, which is what Isirika is all about.
