Click here The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little “extra” and that describes our school perfectly as you will see as you read this edition of our newsletter which outlines the fantastic achievements of our students and the staff who support them every day. The Reconciliation Week Assembly last week was very moving and I would like to thank Uncle Bill O’Brien for attending and delivering the Welcome to Country. This also provided the opportunity to acknowledge and introduce the students in the Aboriginal Leadership Team to the school. Congratulations to Joel Latham, Hamish Cook-Webber, Grace McDonald, Maximos Parish, Tekirra Kinnaird and River Evans for taking on this role and also for taking part in the ceremony and addressing the school. I also thank Kelly O’Brien who attended the assembly and presented a cheque to the school from Port Macquarie Hastings Council from a successful grant application to go towards the establishment of a Yarning Circle. The new jacket arrived and were distributed to students last week, just in time for the cold weather that has arrived. The jackets as well as being a protection from the cold and wind, look fantastic and are very smart. Students who have enrolled this year will have to be patient as we order more stock and also some of the smaller sizes, hopefully this will not take too long until they arrive. It was wonderful to welcome a large group of distance education students and their parents to the school this week. Students really enjoyed meeting their teachers and renewing friendships with fellow students. It was a very successful, happy and productive time for all involved. Happy reading! Japanese Continuers Speaking DayGabrielle Hooper with Nosworthy Sensei Our Japanese Continuers students travelled to North Sydney for a speaking day to practice for the HSC. It was a great experience to meet other Japanese students and gained some valuable feedback from a variety of Japanese teachers on particles, incorporation of a variety of structures and vocabulary, as well as varying tone of voice. Students had the ability to collaborate with each other. It was a brilliant experience and we would like to wish students the best of luck in upcoming oral exams. Thank you to Nosworthy Sensei for travelling down to support our students. がんばってください。 HSC Major ProjectsYear 12 Aboriginal Studies students have completed their HSC Major Project for this year. The quality of the works was very high and the students presented a variety of formats. Tianna, a full-time Distance Education student choose to look at Aboriginal involvement in World War One and demonstrated her findings in an artwork of a ‘fallen poppy’ with the words ‘lest we forget’ translated in the Kattang language of the Biripai people. Kyiesha, who studies just one subject through Camden Haven High School, choose to examine the role of storytelling in art and produced her own artistic story to demonstrate this. The students also create a Logbook to demonstrate their journey through the process and these were also of a high standard this year. Other presentations included a directory, an online presentation and video presentations. Mini SchoolThank you to all Distance Education students who attended the Mini School in Week 6!
