Withdrawing from subjects

Last date to withdraw from standard Semester 2 subjects, take leave of absence or withdraw from your course without incurring a withdrawn grade on your academic record and a HECS-HELP/FEE-HELP/Fees liability is the Census date: Saturday 31 August, 2013.

Please note however that students must finalise their enrolment by Friday 30 August, 2013.

What do I need to consider before withdrawing from a subject?

International students
International students on student visas are expected to complete their course by the course end date on their Confirmation of Enrolment (COE). Usually you need to enrol in a standard load of 50 points per semester. You can only reduce your load in limited circumstances and an application is required. Further information about your visa and reducing your study load is available from International Student Services.

Local students
Local students do not need to apply to reduce their study load. Please note that dropping your study load to part-time study may affect Centrelink or scholarship benefits and eligibility for public transport concession.

Withdrawing from a subject may impact your progression in and duration of your course. Use the Handbook to check whether the subject you are considering withdrawing from is a prerequisite for subjects you intend to take in future or a corequisite for any subjects in your current enrolment. You can make an appointment with a student adviser if you would like to discuss your course plan.

Further information about managing your enrolment including how to withdraw from subjects is available on the Amending your Study Plan web page.

Submit your 20 Minute City Video

Submission Deadline: 9 September 2013
Prize: Top prize of $1000
Entries and queries: Email ABP Competitions

The 20-minute City suggests a compact local city based upon our work, recreation and social lives played out only 20 minutes from home. What does this mean for the provision of the systems on which we rely: energy, ecology, economy and culture?

Teams of three to five students are invited to devise a script and produce a five minute film for the ideal 20-minute City. You can record using a smart phone or camcorder.

The top five videos, as judged by an expert panel, will be exhibited as part of the University of Melbourne's Festival of Ideas.

Use all your skills in planning, design and digital technologies to make a mini-documentary for the future 20-minute City as utopia, dystopia or simply the new everyday.

Tokyo Travelling Studio Exhibition

Date: Tuesday 20 August - Friday 30 August 2013
Venue: Wunderlich Gallery, 757 Swanston

Following their return from Japan, students from the Tokyo Travelling Studio will exhibit their work in the Wunderlich @757 Swanston Street. In July, a group of 16 highly motivated MSD Landscape Architecture students, under the leadership of Dr, Heike Rahmann, engaged in the overseas studio in partnership with Tokyo University. They considered urban regeneration issues in four different sites along the Sumida River, as well as visiting community leaders in Shibitachi (Miyagi Prefracture) to learn about disaster mitigation processes.

Melbourne School of Design Travelling Studios are 'working laboratories' for design thought and production and involve the exploration of complex, real-life issues.
