Cardiologists join the Great Southern Specialist Centre team Cardiologists welcomed by GSSCTwo highly experienced Perth cardiologists are joining the Great Southern Specialist Centre team this month. Dr Justin Teng and Dr Bharat Khialani are based in Perth at eCardiology, a specialist centre passionate about integrating technology with Cardiology. Both cardiologists are already familiar with the Albany region, Dr Teng has been providing clinical cardiology services in Albany as well as supervising the cardiac CT program at Great Southern Radiology (GSR) for the last 2 years and Dr Khialani has been flying to Albany once a month for the last few months for face-to-face clinics in addition to regular Telehealth appointments. The cardiologists will bring with them a cardiac sonographer technician who will perform cardiac testing such as echocardiograms, ECG and Holter monitors. Dr Teng and Dr Khialani will be hosting a dinner meeting next week for medical practitioners in Albany focusing on “Thrombosis in Primary Practice - A practical care based approach in patients like yours” on Wednesday Match 17 at the Carlyles Function Centre. For further information see the flyer below. Dr Teng's expertise is in the clinical management of patients with all manner of cardiac diseases and he is a highly experienced and dedicated Imaging Cardiologist specialising in echocardiography and cardiac CT. He completed his general cardiology training across the three major tertiary hospitals in Perth where he developed his passion for noninvasive cardiac imaging. As the Cardiac Clinical Lead for GSR, he supervises and reports CT coronary angiograms, which allows him to diagnose and treat coronary artery disease locally without the need to travel to Perth for hospital admissions and invasive cardiac procedures. As the only cardiologist in the region with specific expertise in echocardiography, Dr Teng's focus will be to provide a high quality echo service which can be accessible locally with short waiting times. Dr Khialani is an Interventional Cardiologist and Perioperative Physician with interests in all aspects of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Disease. He is passionate about ischaemic heart disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, percutaneous coronary intervention and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Dr Khialani is well versed in coronary angioplasty and stenting as well as the optimisation of patients through cardiac and non-cardiac surgery. He has clinical appointments at Sir Charles Gairdner, Mount and Hollywood Hospital, and can provide care for both public and private patients as required. Dr Teng and Dr Khialani both share a vision of providing innovative healthcare and cutting-edge technology in Cardiovascular medicine to deliver the best outcomes for patients. One of the areas where they have been able to help regional patients is through videoTelehealth, where appropriate, to reduce travel inconveniences, allowing access to timely, affordable/bulk-billed and quality clinical care to patients regardless of their location and from the comfort of the patients home. Dr Khialani said with their simple to use one-touch SMS based platform, most patients had found it very easy to use the Telehealth service, and the feedback so far had been very good. Dr Teng said as internet infrastructure had improved they had been able to provide Video Telehealth services to patients in the Albany region and, while COVID-19 had accelerated the uptake of Telehealth appointments through necessity, as patients and doctors get used to the technology people were beginning to realise the ongoing advantages that Telehealth provides. Dr Teng, Dr Khialani and their cardiac sonography technician Martin will be working on a rotational basis from the GSSC two days a week, every week commencing mid March, with this possibly increasing as the workload increases. Video Telehealth consultations are available 5 days a week. For all appointments please contact the eCardiology administration team, phone (08) 9468 5578 or email admin@ecardiology.net.au |
