Scheduled for February 2016, this workshop will be a practical introduction to the growing field of architectural robotics. It will be open to students from both design and engineering related disciplines, as well interested students from other fields.

Landscape Ecosystem Management major

Have you decided on your major? The Landscape Ecosystem Management major calls to those who want to engage with the questions that underpin the future of this planet.  This is a major for the brave-hearted – we need YOU!

Around the world, environmental policy and planning decision makers are looking in their ‘tool boxes’ for ways to ensure prosperity for the majority and an environment for the future.

Cores Subjects in the Landscape Ecosystem Management Major (available from 2016) will include:

  • Integrated Landscape Analysis

New subject availabilities are subject to approval. The 2016 Handbook which confirms 2016 subject availabilities will be released in late October/early November 2015.

Call for submissions for RENDER design exhibition

Brunswick Street Gallery invites submissions for their 2015 design exhibition, RENDER, which will be held from 30 October to 12 November, 2015.

Initiated in 2014 as an annual occurrence, RENDER was a very successfully received and well attended exhibition. Work from emerging designers included print design, textile design, industrial design, furniture and jewellery design, 3D printing, homewares, typography, small object, packaging, apps and graphic design.

Intending to bridge a gap between the gallery environment and the design fair, the exhibition focusses on the importance of connecting client communities and emerging designers.

#SharksDen Innovation Challenge

Research Platforms will again be running the #SharksDen Innovation Challenge. This time the stakes are higher with the event running live at the 2015 3D Printing Showcase, and a prize to the value of $1000 awarded to the winning team.

Before the 3D printing showcase, you will be taught the tools to build, design and 3D print your greatest invention. You will also learn techniques on how to pitch your innovative product to a panel of investors. You and your team mates will need all these skills at the 3D Printing Showcase, as you will continue working on your designs live during the event. Teams will then pitch their idea to a panel of investors at the showcase.

Exhibition: Transmit Outward

Transmit|Outward, Inflection’s annual exhibition for 2015, explores the theme of projection and its relationship to the creative process as a perpetual state of becoming.

Transmit|Outward questions pre-existing notions of the architectural exhibition through a combination of crowd-sourced submissions, installations and events.

Featuring work from international and Australian architects, academics, artists and students, the exhibition showcases pieces that respond to the theme of projection. These works will be presented alongside collaborative events that investigate creative possibilities latent within the design process.

Global Architectural Profiling 'Casablanca' exhibition opening

Global Architectural Profiling (GAP) seeks to cultivate cross cultural ties between Melbourne and cities around the world by organising an annual public exhibition to showcase design and architecture from different urban centres across the globe.

The sixth annual GAP exhibition at the University of Melbourne in  features design and architecture from Casablanca, Kingdom of Morocco. 

The exhibition runs from 22 September - 2 October in the Andrew Lee King Fun Gallery, MSD building.

Australasian Student Competition: This Public Space

Entries due: Friday 25 September

This Public Space (TPS) calls on students to work in teams to develop innovative design and programming strategies that make public spaces more inclusive.

TPS asks participants to consider: why do we seek escape from the city, and what forms of escape can we find within the urban environment?

Submissions must come teams of up to four members, and should be multidisciplinary where possible; individuals may not participate alone.

Three shortlisted teams will be invited to present their work at a panel at This Public Life: Festival of Landscape Architecture in Melbourne in October 2015.

The ARC Centre of Excellence Undergraduate Summer Scholarships in Climate System Science are highly competitive scholarships intended to provide undergraduate students from Australian universities an introduction to cutting-edge climate science research at one of our five universities, or our national partners: CSIRO, Bureau of Meteorology and Department of Environment.

Students should be in their second, third, or post-honours year and interested in pursuing honours or a postgraduate degree in climate system science.

Scholarships are available for students to conduct supervised research for a six-week period during the summer break from November to February, with a break around the holidays. The scholarships are valued at $3,800 for the six-week research project.

ABP Building Access

In order to access the Melbourne School of Design building and/or the Baldwin Spencer building outside of normal business hours, students must read and acknowledge the terms and conditions set out on the Building Induction web page (login required).

Upon successful completion of the Building Induction by eligible students, student access to ABP Buildings will be provided from 7am - 11pm, Monday to Sunday.  Please note that access make take up to two working days to be activated.

Building Access and your Student Card

  • You must have your student card on you when you are in any ABP Buildings (and anywhere on campus)
  • You will be required to present your student card to Security staff if asked to do so (if you refuse you will be asked to leave)

Tobacco-free campus
