Visit from Education Specialist Robin BellesLast week, QSI Atyrau had the pleasure of inviting Robin Belles, Global Project Director for Shell schools and owner of IPC Nederland, to visit our campus. He had a chance to see how our school operates, visit with teachers, administration, students, and parents. Mr. Belles met with the school teaching staff to present some thought provoking professional development. Our school looks forward to continued partnership with Robin Belles as we all strive to make our school better and better for our children. New Paper Recycling Boxes from Eco Recycling KZ.Heather Townsend Academic Coordinator Natalya Egorova, owner and operator of Eco Recycling.KZ, recently came to speak to the middle school and secondary students about her company. It was very encouraging to hear the things they are doing in our community to promote recycling. Her company collects paper, plastic, glass, old printer cartridges, and electronics. She then sends these products to recycling plants in Russia. Please contact her if you would like to start recycling in your company or community: +87471961977 Adult BadmintonAdult Badminton Club: every Wednesday, 7:30 - 9:30. OPEN GYMEach Saturday during the year, from 1 PM to 3 PM, our gym is open to your family for your use. Non-QSI families will need to sign a release form before using the facilities. SaraychikHeather Townsend Academic CoordinatorWhat a wonderful field trip! As the Elevens through Secondary walked among the archaeology sites of Saraychik along the Ural River, they were able to imagine what it would have been like to live along the “Silk Road” around the 14th century. They also perused the museum, learning more about the intricacies of life during this period. Some of the students who have been there before became our class experts and were able to share insights they had previously learned. Notes from ScienceFrom the Desk of Mr. Swanson Cultural Studies 11 yoc – We will now turn to Unit One (Science and Engineering Practices—parents, please note that this unit will remain open throughout the year in connection with other science units), and Unit Two (Investigating Energy) of our new (received October 5, 2018) Houghton Mifflin Harcourt texts and materials. Math 11 yoc – Students are completing Unit Two, their introduction to Algebra, and working on more and more complex word problems. During the week of October 15, we expect to begin Unit Three (Decimals). It is expected that by November 16 they will have mastered the procedures involved in Multi-step Problem Solving. Life Science 12/13 yoc – Students have continued studying the complexities of cells. This has included several lab experiences—coupled with mathematical calculations—to understand the relationship of cells' surface area to volume. Students are making connections from simple cells to higher level structures and functions in organ systems and organisms. Physical Science – The class is completing their second unit. While studying Properties and States of Matter, students were challenged to combine research with technology and collaborate with a partner. Their goal was to create a presentation in order to educate their fellow classmates on the various TSWs in Unit Two. This signup form will come home with your children soon! Please fill it out and return it to the school so we know how much food to prepare. |
