The term is well underway with examinations having been completed for Years 7 to 10 and Year 11 and 12 both now, halfway through their respective courses. Staff are busy marking mid-course examinations and writing reports and these will be distributed over the coming weeks. It was great to welcome parents to the Parent Teacher afternoon this week to meet with their student’s teachers and check on their progress.
A mural wall featuring works of arts from students has been added to the stairwell in D block. It is very colourful and decorative and showcases the cultural talents of a large number of our students over the past two years. This expands our showcase of works across the school and is a great initiative from the Creative Arts faculty.
This week we welcome to our staff, Mrs Horrigan as our Aboriginal Education Worker (AEW). She will be working closely with Ms Gilbert who leads the Aboriginal Education Team by providing support for our indigenous students and parents. Yarn Up with the Sisters is now in its third week and feedback from both students and staff has been very positive as students explore their own origins and background and learn more about themselves and their peers, and their cultural heritage and traditions. It has been a very worthwhile experience for the students providing them with the opportunity to work closely with community elders and we thank Aunty Rhonda Radley for assisting.
Last Friday the whole school was involved in several wellbeing initiatives which focused on WE CARE, an initiative we undertook several years ago and which continues to be a major theme for student and staff wellbeing. Staff were greeted with bacon and egg rolls on arrival and then an Assembly was held for the National Day of Action Against Bullying which had been postponed from term one, due to the flood event. The Anti-bullying Policy was launched and a strong anti-bullying message, ‘Have a Voice’ was clearly spelt out and promoted by staff and students through focused words, video, music and song. A banner was signed and students were able to paint symbols on boomerang key rings to commemorate the day. Rain unfortunately did not allow some planned activities to be held, but a big thank you goes to the Wellbeing Team for their efforts in the planning and
organisation of a very successful day.
The SRC also held an out of uniform day to support and raise funds for the Worlds’ Greatest Shave. Several students donated their long locks to be sent away to be made into wigs while many others stepped up to shed their hair, several mullets among them. So well done to students for helping out and congratulations as $600 was raised to assist the fight against blood cancer.
Lots of sporting activities have been happening this term in a wide variety of sports including volleyball, cross country and especially around the different codes of football, with students representing the school at zone and state. Cohen Model, Tayte Gibson and Noah Model were all selected in the U 15’s North Coast Touch team. Noah had to withdraw due to injury but Cohen and Tayte played in Wollongong last week. The North Coast team were successful in winning several games, so well done boys in being selected. Keep up the good efforts. The CHHS Open Boys and Girls Soccer teams have won their way through to the semi-finals to be played in Coffs Harbour. Go guys, best of luck for the next round of games.
This week the Lower North Coast Dance Festival was held at the Glasshouse and we had students perform at three of the four performance evenings. The Showcase on Thursday was the highlight of the week. Well done and congratulations to all who performed and thank you to our teachers who supported our students and the event, as well the organising committee led by Mrs Livingston.
Year 12 Hospitality students were disappointed to not be able to attend the SeaWorld Hospitality School in 2020 and again earlier this year due to COVID restrictions. As an alternative, they are this week exploring what is available locally in a variety of venues for entertainment, food and accommodation to expand their knowledge and understanding of the many facets of the hospitality industry and enable them to complete additional competencies for their course work.

National Day Of Action Against Bullying
Camden Haven High School has built a strong culture of WE CARE. Over the past two years we have evaluated our Anti-bullying Policy and programs. Working intensively with the national eSmart program, students, parents and teachers, we are accessing the very best practice in our new plan and procedures.
On Friday 19 May we launched this initiative with The National Day of Action Against Bullying.
One of the highlights of the National Day Of Action Against Bullying was the World's Greatest Shave.
Yarn Up With the Sisters is a program aimed at the female Aboriginal students from Years 7-10. This program was designed to enable the girls a chance to become more connected with their culture through listening, cultural experiences, community involvement and strong Aboriginal women of the Biripai nation.
Year 7 Visual Arts Students' Mural Wall
The mural wall on Block D is a colourful addition to our school and shows off the amazing talent of CHHS Year 7 Visual Arts students. It comprises of a selection of Year 7 works from the last two years. The theme was "Personal Connections" and we looked at sociograms (a visual representation of the social links and preferences that a person has).
