Welcome back to the semester, hopefully you're managing to find your classes and enjoying seeing friends again.

This week's Student News is bursting at the seams - with opportunities to grow your career, food trucks on campus and chances to practice speaking a new language. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with as the campus livens up, so see if something stands out!

News

Food trucks are back!

During semester 2 there will be a food truck on the North Terrace campus every Wednesday next to Hub Central, and every Thursday on the eastern side of Union House from 11 am – 2 pm.
Trucks will rotate to keep the menu interesting.

  • Calling all Electrical & Electronic Engineering students!
    Your school is identifying areas where resources and support are needed to optimise future performance (among other things). If you'd like to contribute, and are available for a 30 minute confidential interview around midday on Thursday 15 August, please contact Angela Alessi via this site.

    A new HELP loans portal called myHELPbalance is in its final design stage, and the policy and programs team need your Input! Take this 3 minute survey before 9 August and have your say.

    You may be eligible to apply for Reasonable Adjustments to your coursework or Alternative Exam Arrangements (AEAs).
    Apply by contacting Disability Support, you will need to register and provide supporting documentation.

  • Meet Brianna, the new face of the Adelaide Graduate Award
    Brianna is a student who volunteers in the mammology department at the SA Museum.

  • SSAF feedback wanted
    The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) helps to fund student services and amenities at tertiary institutions. Have your say about what the SSAF funds by taking part in this survey by 4 August.

Paid Ecoversity Internship

An 18-month paid internship is available to an enthusiastic and hard-working student to support the delivery of sustainability engagement strategies on campus. The Ecoversity Intern will work two-days per week, starting late-August 2019 and work days are negotiable. Apply now- applications close 9 August.

    Looking for insights into industry? Want to boost your employability skills? The Career Access Mentoring program is back! This is a FREE opportunity for students with at-least 1 year of completed study to engage with an industry mentor.
    Information sessions are live - book in to be eligible for matching.

  • Are you a first year student with Financial difficulties?
    Equal Access Grant applications are now open. These are small grants to assist with some of the initial costs associated with beginning University. For more information contact Student Care for an interview or to discuss further.

  • Join us for the official launch of the Uni Run
    5:15 pm, 8 August - University of Adelaide Footbridge, Southside
    It's a 5km easy and FREE run with a small group of female students and staff, run by the Women's Recreational Running Network (WRRN).
    All levels of runners/walkers welcome!
    Register now, join the WRRN Facebook group, or just rock up on the night.
  • Photonics & Advanced Sensing Open Day
    5 pm, 8 August - The Braggs building, North Terrace campus
    If you're an undergraduate student interested in science, learn about and celebrate the fantastic research at the Institution of Photonics and Advanced Sensing - using the power of light to make the world a better place!
    With show 'n' tells about research, free pizza and tours of the labs, get a feel for the industry in what's sure to be a great night.

    12-18 August 2019
    Join us in the hub from the 12-15 August from 10.00 am – 3.00 pm to celebrate National Student Volunteer Week. Volunteers will be available to answer your questions about volunteering and how you can claim hours through the Adelaide Graduate Award.

Careers & employment

The Adelaide University Union advertises part time work for current students on the paid vacancies page from Employment Services.

Career Services are free for all students. CareerHub features a jobs board of opportunities related to your studies including paid work experience and graduate roles. The Careers team also run employer events and workshops to increase employability, build resumes, improve your interview skills and more.
