September 14, 2021 House Education and Labor Committee Approves Reconciliation BillOn Friday September 10th, 2021, the House Education and Labor Committee approved their reconciliation proposal by a vote of 28-22. This measure comprises the committee’s portion of the Build Back Better Act, a $3.5 trillion bill that Congressional Democrats are working to pass through the budget reconciliation process. The Education and Labor Committee’s proposal contains $761 billion and includes the following provisions:
The proposal will now go the House Budget Committee for inclusion in the comprehensive Build Back Better Act. House Ways and Means Committee Continues Reconciliation Bill MarkupThe House Ways and Means Committee is continuing to markup their reconciliation proposal for inclusion in the Build Back Better Act. The proposal includes $9 billion for the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College Career Training (TAACCCT) grant program, continues the Health Profession Opportunity Grant (HPOG) program, and excludes Pell Grant funding from gross income for tax purposes. Senate Confirms James Kvaal as Department of Education Under SecretaryToday, the Senate approved the nomination of James Kvaal as Education Under Secretary by a vote of 58-37. Mr. Kvaal was first nominated by President Biden on February 17, 2021 and received bipartisan support at his confirmation hearing on April 2021.
