They were priviledged to hear from a range of inspirational speakers including Dr Karl from Triple J, Dr Jordan Nguyen a Biomedical Engineer, Meg Teasdell an Environmental Engineer and also see an amazing magic trick performed by Consentino. The school is celebrating NAIDOC Week this week. It began with our Aboriginal Student Leadership Team members, Max, Joel, Grace and Hamish addressing the whole school assembly. They spoke about the importance of NAIDOC Week and also the theme for this year of Voice, Treaty, Truth. The school secured sponsorship from the Kendall Op Shop and were able to use this to fund a Planetarium which traced the history of Indigenous Culture. Students from our school, as well as our local primary schools, were invited to visit with community members to view the stories. The National Swimming Championships were held in Melbourne earlier this week , with our school being represented by Nash Wilkes, a distance education student in Year 12, and Bailey Whitton, Year 8. Nash won gold in the 50 breaststroke and Bailey Whitton won two bronze medals in both the 100m and the 50m freestyle. Congratulations and well done Nash and Bailey. The Careers Expo held this week attracted students from all schools in the local area to see the range and variety of ways in which they are able to continue their learning when they have completed Year 12. The MPC was a very busy hive of activity with students keen to engage with the stall holders and explore the possibilities available to them. Thank you to Mrs Brown from the canteen and Mrs Duval, and the students who assisted in providing delicious refreshments and coffee to our visitors. The Information Evening for parents and Year 10 students regarding the selection of subjects for Years 11 - 2020, was well attended. Parents and students were keen to learn about the variety of new subjects and what they involve and how to assist students in making the best choices. Interviews for all Year 10 students will be held next week and parents who would like to make an appointment to discuss subject choices with a member of the Careers Team, may do so by ringing the school. A subject selection information afternoon will be held next Thursday for Year 8 students moving into Year 9. Parents are most welcome to come to the afternoon to be held in the MPC from 2.20pm to 4.00pm. All selections for both Year 8 and 10 are made online and students should ensure they have made these selections in priority order and following the timeline outlined to them by Mr Rowe. Year 11 students are currently travelling home from their snow excursion in Thredbo. Students and staff had a very productive and enjoyable week of new experiences. Look out for lots of photos of their adventures in the coming days. Year 12 students begin the Trial Higher School Certificate examinations next week. I know that this can be a stressful time for both students and parents. Should you require any support at this time, please contact Mr Vonbun who leads the Stage 6 team and he will be able to provide the assistance required. I know students have been working diligently in preparing for these examinations and I wish them well in their efforts. Mrs M Hutchinson Please take note of the following announcements.
