The blueprint for a high-quality diabetes inpatient service has been mapped out in a new Joint British Diabetes Societies (JBDS) document. A good inpatient diabetes service is a summary of best practice in adult inpatient diabetes care, based on the suite of JBDS for Inpatient Care guidelines which have been published since 2011. An online handbook has been created to help junior doctors safely look after adult inpatients with diabetes. The Handbook for Adult Inpatient Diabetes Care provides guidelines, educational videos and top tips and can be accessed via mobile phone, iPad, laptop or PC. Nominations are open for voting for two QiC Diabetes awards aiming to reward outstanding diabetes professionals. Votes can now be cast for the Outstanding Educator in Diabetes and Diabetes Professional of the Year accolades as well as The People’s Award. Voting closes on Monday, September 2. More people with type 1 diabetes should be considered for pump treatment in line with NICE guidance, the latest National Diabetes Insulin Pump Audit report has recommended. The 2017-18 report covering England and Wales has called for improved access to the technology to reduce variation in provision and also because of associations with treatment target benefit.
