Asia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, Europe, North America, South America… Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Southern Ocean, Indian Ocean, Arctic Ocean. The 6 year olds are able to identify and name the continents and oceans of our world. They are also making maps, using compasses to find directions, navigating around maps and globes and creating their own maps. They know which way is north in the classroom too.
We are reading and writing every day during literacy and we have even written letters to Rosie, our new visitor at QSI Dushanbe. We are
also doing word work, reading to self, reading to others, working with teachers, and spelling.
In Mathematics, we are learning many ways to make numbers with dots, unifix cubes, and pictures. We are learning about order, addends, sums, 1 more, addition sentences, and add to. Through a variety of strategies, the students are learning many difference ways to make numbers and explain the processes they use.
Mrs. Horton’s and Mr. Dekker’s Literacy classes have been coming to our playground every Friday morning sharing books as our reading
buddies. We like listening to the older students read to us.
