It's Mathaithai time! Have you entered yet? Now in its eighth year the fun and challenging Mathaithai Trail Run 2019 features 4 races over various distances and the Mathaithai Mountain Bike Race 2019 gives cyclists a choice of 3 distances; all events on trails and tracks through the beautiful and impressive bushveld of Tshufi Hill.
The 20km Tshufi Hill Challenge Run takes runners from bushveld through gum plantation to spectacular indigenous forest and on up to the very top of Tshufi Hill, which affords fantastic views. The trail is mostly a single track and is highly technical in parts due to gradient, boulders and loose gravel. For experienced runners only. The Challenge starts at 07h00. The 10km Trail Run takes runners via a well-worn path through indigenous bushveld, through gum plantation to spectacular indigenous forest, heading for high ground and then winding downward toward the main school gate. The 5km Fun Run is ideal to run or enjoy as a family walk. The easy trail takes you through indigenous bushveld and is suited to junior runners and those out to enjoy the beauty of the area on a leisurely stroll. The Fun Run starts at 08h30. Categories: 1st Open, Junior (<19)

The 2km Kiddies Walk is ideal for our youngest participants who are too little to complete the 5km race. This easy trail takes you through the Lebone II campus and some indigenous bushveld, and is suited to families with small children. The Kiddies Walk starts at 08h40

The 45km marathon Mathaithai Challenge is regarded as a fast race with only 600 meters of total vertical ascent. The race starts and finishes at Lebone II College and the route covers dirt roads, jeep tracks and some exhilarating single track on both the northern and southern side outside the school premises. The15km Let's Get Lost Ride is safe and not too technical and is suitable for experienced riders and fit novices that want to experience cycling in the bush. The Let's Get Lost ride starts at 11h15. Categories: Open, Junior (15-19), Youth (1-14)

The 5km Junior ride is safe and non-technical and is suitable for young riders and those who want to enjoy a family ride. The Junior ride starts at 10h00. Categories: Youth (1-14)

Lebone II - College of the Royal Bafokeng
Standing proud at the foot of Tshufi Hill, Lebone II – College of the Royal Bafokeng overlooks the village of Phokeng, outside Rustenburg. One reaches the school either via the N4 off-ramp or directly from Phokeng, or via the R565 from Sun City. Surrounding the school is the unspoilt natural environment on which the Mathaithai events are held.
Event Facilities: - All trails are clearly marked with permanent and temporary signage. Over the month before the event a bush-clearing team clears the trails extensively.
- Marshalls are present on the trails to guide runners and cyclists on the various routes.
- Water points provide drinks and snacks, and are placed strategically on the route for greatest coverage. No bottles are provided, only cups are
utilised, or runners/ cyclists must bring their own hydration.
- Mathaithai 2019 is a zero-waste event. Water cups must be thrown in the bin within 50m of the water tables.
- Two sets of bathrooms are found close to the start/finish. These bathrooms are kept clean and fully-serviced throughout the event.
- There is parking for the runners as well as the spectators on the field. This area is cordoned off and is clearly marked. Security guards are stationed at all entrances to point visitors in the right direction.
- The area is secure. The school has security on the property at all times.
- A secure and convenient bike park provides peace of mind for cyclists who wish to park their bikes before the MTB races or whilst they enjoy the festival.
- Food stalls, product stalls and children’s entertainment will be on offer.
Important Event Information: - Trail Run Events: Please remember that hats, sunscreen and appropriate running shoes are essential. All finishing participants will receive a medal.
- MTB Events: Please remember that hats, sunscreen and a suitable mountain bike are essential. NO HELMET = NO RIDE. All finishing participants will receive a medal.
- Pre-registration and number collection: Friday, 25 October - from 16h00 - 19h00 at the venue
- On-the-day entries and number collection: Saturday, 26 October
– on-the-day entries and number collection will take place at the venue from 05h00 until 5 minutes before the race starts (Cash, Credit Card, SnapScan & Zapper only). A R30 surcharge will be charged on on-the-day entries.
