Update from Chief Executive, Kerry Leaver
October has seen us hit the ground running in our work to implement the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care.
As mentioned in our last bulletin, the two recommendations directly relating to the Education Standard Board (ESB) are:
- Recommendation 7: to Improve the function of the ESB.
- Recommendation 30: a focus on improving services that are ‘Working Towards’ the National Quality Standard.
With our additional state government funding, we have begun work on boosting staffing levels to ensure we assess and rate early childhood education and care services every three years, in line with the national average.

Driving continuous improvement for OSHC
Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) forms an important part of the lives of many South Australian families, in fact there are currently more than 29,000 (or 1 in 6) primary school aged South Australian children enrolled in one of SA’s 389 OSHC services.

School success spotlight
In the latest of our regular series on school services is the recently established Goolwa Secondary College. In keeping with the Education Standards Board’s regulatory responsibilities, all schools must be reviewed within the first 18 months of operation and at least once every five years.
