Southwest Adds Service to Tinseltown

Southwest Airlines launched a second daily nonstop flight to Los Angeles this month.  Enjoy free checked bags and Southwest’s friendly service during your next trip to southern California.  Book your tickets today at southwest.com.

On November 3, Southwest’s nonstop New Orleans service will transition to AirTran, and Southwest will take over the current AirTran service to Ft. Myers on November 3 as well.  As Southwest and AirTran continue to integrate their networks, you can book flights at either southwest.com or airtran.com.

United, Air Canada on Concourse E

United Airlines and Air Canada are now operating from Concourse E.  The move allows United to consolidate all of its flights on a single concourse.  As always, be sure to confirm your gate assignment before heading to the security checkpoint.

New Delta SkyClub; 757 returns to MKE

Delta Air Lines is now operating from its new gate areas on Concourse D, and the new SkyClub is open for business.  At nearly 5,000 square feet, the new Club is almost twice the size of the previous SkyClub on Concourse E.  Congratulations to Laura Moya of Lake Villa, Illinois, for winning a one-year Delta SkyClub membership as part of our Mitchell Airport Facebook contest in April.

Delta SkyClub members enjoy fully stocked bars, complimentary snacks, free Wi-Fi, satellite TV, personalized flight assistance, and complimentary magazines and newspapers.

Also of note, Delta is bringing its Boeing 757, their largest single-aisle aircraft, back to the Milwaukee-Minneapolis route beginning July 2.  The 757-300, seating 224 passengers, will become the largest regularly scheduled passenger aircraft to operate at MKE this summer.

Low-fare Streak Continues at MKE

According to the latest statistics from the U.S. Department of Transportation, Mitchell’s average fares are $65 less than the national average, and $70 less than O’Hare’s average.  Plus, MKE is the only airport in Wisconsin and Illinois with ALL the major airlines.  Visit mitchellairport.com, where we post our MKE Airfare Deals every Tuesday.

West Side Observation Lot Now Open

Aviation enthusiasts love finding the best spots to view arriving and departing aircraft, and Mitchell Airport recently completed construction of a second observation lot on S. 6th Street between College and Grange.  The area features free parking and a great view of aircraft landing eastbound.  The original observation lot on Layton Avenue will remain open as well.

Airport Project Scores Triple Play

Mitchell Airport recently received three awards for its Runway Safety Area project, which created 1,000-foot obstruction-free safety zones at the end of each runway and included a new College Avenue tunnel below the north-south runway.  Mitchell Airport’s engineers were recognized by the FAA, the American Public Works Association and the Wisconsin Airport Management Association for their leadership in completing the project safely and ahead of schedule.
