Researchers have published a series of recommendations for the acute management of diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic syndrome following a review of evidence. The guidance developed by a team from University of Pittsburgh has been published by the BMJ. The Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD) has updated its position statement on the use of SGLT-2 inhibitors in type 1 diabetes. The update aims to mitigate a risk of higher incidence of diabetic ketoacidosis without significant hyperglycaemia and other potential complications in people taking the class of drug. The new offer will mean people with type 2 diabetes have evidence-based information and support available via an online portal, giving them convenient and quick help to deal with the physical and mental challenges of diabetes. Sanofi has launched a new long-acting insulin glargine injection pen recommended for adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus requiring at least 20 units of basal insulin per day.
