Dead three times – the cost of insurance crime

The Insurance Crime Bureau was contacted last month about a claim for an individual who was allegedly murdered. On investigation, it was revealed that the same person was declared dead in 2018, 2019 and 2020, with claims submitted to various insurers each time. Investigations will continue to ensure that the individuals involved are apprehended and punished. This fraud was revealed, but what is insurance crime – rife in the long-term, short-term, and healthcare sectors - costing us all? And what can be done about it?
