Open our hands to Your work. And open our hearts to Your Spirit. Amen TERM 2 WEEK 5 MAY 29, 2019 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGEDear Parents/Guardians Parents please note students return to school on Tuesday 4th June there is no pupil free day after the long weekend. My thanks to the many parents, staff and students who contributed to the Strategic Planning process and Vision for Learning discussions over the past weeks. We have provided over 20 hours of opportunity for parents, students, staff, School Board, P&F Executive and the OLG Parish Council to contribute to our future planning. The discussions have been courageous and honest and have provided a wonderful view into what we do well at our school, what we would like to do better and what our vision for the future is. The next part of the process is to take all of the data and draft our Strategic Plan for 2020-2023 and our Vision for Learning 2019 – 2023. I look forward to launching these plans to the school community in the near future. We celebrated the amazing diversity of our wonderful country this week. Our prayer service led by Year 5B helped educate us about National Reconciliation Week and our celebration of Italian Day today was very colourful. Thank you to the teachers who have worked hard to develop our knowledge and understanding of the people who make up our beautiful country. The Eucharist Retreat planning is in full swing and I am grateful to Mrs Wandek, Mrs McCormack, Mrs Alexander, Sister Anita and Sister Maureen for their organisation and creativity for the day. We will finish the retreat on Friday 14th at 2.15pm with a Liturgy of the Word in the MPA. All parents, grandparents and family members of our Year 4 children and Our Lady of Grace Parish PREP children are very welcome to join us to finish the Eucharist Retreat by praying together. The Parents & Friends Association has been very generous in providing some funds to help us transform our Library into a contemporary library space. This is an opportunity for us as a school to highlight the central importance of the Library and books. The Library will remain totally focused on books and sharing the love and importance of reading. Our students have been interviewed to find out how they love to read, what they would love to see in the library and what do they not want in the library. You would be proud of their answers and ideas. In order to bring some of these ideas to life we are looking for a clever parent who has carpentry skills. We are looking to create some signature hexagonal shelving, some booths for small group work and possibly a feature tree! Please let Mrs Ryan (6241 9500 or admin@olg.edu.au) know if you would be able to meet with the Library team to discuss possibilities. All resources will be paid for we just need your expertise and time. For the first time Our Lady of Grace School will be fundraising for the Archdiocesan LifeLink Day. Further information is available in the newsletter and in your Parish about Lifelink and the societies is supports. Children are invited to bring in a tinned can of food, a gold coin donation and are able to wear free dress on Wednesday 5th June. I am appreciative of Mrs Wandek’s assistance and the leadership of the Year 6 students in their Ministries who are working to make this day a success. Gabrielle Doyle Congratulations to the students who received Merit Awards at last week's assembly. Library Roster If your child is sick, with diarrhoea or vomiting they must stay away from school for 24 hours at least. If your child is unwell with cold symptoms, flu symptoms etc please keep them at home. I am concerned at the number of children attending school who are clearly infectious and generously sharing their illness with other children and staff. Please be considerate both to your sick child and to our school community and while your child is unwell and infectious keep them at home. Gabrielle Doyle Life Link Day We have asked the students to bring in a tin of food which will be donated to ShopFront, one of the many organisations that assist those in need here in Perth. The class that brings in the most tinned goods will receive and extra 15 minutes of play. Children are required to bring a gold coin donation in order to participate in fun activities planned for the day. The Year 6 Leaders have organised; a mini disco, sport activities and games in the Adventure There is also an opportunity to ‘Walk the Labyrinth’ made from all the tinned goods donated by the students. For an extra 20 or 50c, you may be able to purchase a book from the library. The IT Ministry will capture the highlights of the day on video to be shown later in the term at an assembly. Our community is a very generous one and we look forward to collecting as many cans and gold coins as possible. Rhyme Time Please let myself or Vicki know if you are interested. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Teresa Wandek Scoliosis in school girls Last Monday our Year 6 students visited Parliament House and the Constitution Centre for Civics and Citizenship excursion. An exciting opportunity for any student who loves to sing! We’ll sing at 3 different churches during the week, to share our love of music with anyone who would like to come along. We can get you to and from Perth, on a bus full of other campers and staff. The staff include professional musicians, teachers and past participants! We all love it so much we keep coming back each year! Remember, you don’t have to be part of a choir to join us, you just need to love to sing. The cost for the week is $490 which includes 5 nights accommodation, all meals, sheet music, transport to and around Geraldton as well as rehearsals run by professional musicians.
