Many European cities face the challenge of renewing their fringes. Our loyal readers know that this area between the inner city and the suburbs holds the promise of combining the best of both worlds. Close to the vibrant city centre yet still offering space and greenery. The fringes are in need of renewal however and this demands a new approach to urban planning.

For the past 2,5 years the sub>urban partner cities - Antwerp, Baia Mare, Barcelona Metropolitan Area, Brno, Casoria, Düsseldorf, Vienna, Oslo and Solin - have worked out their strategies for urban redevelopment, new planning instruments, methods for stakeholder involvement and a change of governance for local authorities for the fringe.

THURSDAY APRIL 26th

At 9:00 you will start an interactive day full of inspiration, exchange & new tools on how to reinvent the fringe of cities. You will have the opportunity to talk first hand with our 9 expert cities on the topic. In the afternoon you will visit the fringe of Barcelona Metropolitan Area until 19:00.

FRIDAY APRIL 27th

An optional - and recommended - part of the sub>urban progamme follows on Friday. In the morning there is a networking session on the MEANING project from the Europe for Citizens program about "Urban and Metropolitan Regeneration Projects with ESI funds: Best practices inspiring the post 2020 debates."

In the afternoon you will be introduced to the project site Badia del Vallès, which was the center of sub>urban in BMA. At 17:30 the Final Conference will conclude with local festivities.

WHO IS THE FINAL CONFERENCE FOR? 

The conference is open to all representatives from cities and municipalities, urban planners & architects, students, political representatives and other (European) networks, moreover to everyone who’s interested in the topic of "reinventing the fringe".
