1. Listeria outbreak linked to ready-to-eat chicken products

Ready-to-eat chicken products have been linked to three listeriosis cases across two states, leading to a recall of 8.5 million pounds of products.

An outbreak of cryptosporidium that affected 40 people in Ireland last year has been linked to prepared mixed salad from one farm sold through food service.

4. Europe to phase-out caged farming

The European Commission has agreed to ban cages for a number of farm animals under the Farm to Fork Strategy, moving beyond the bans already in place for laying hens, broilers, sows and calves.

5. Vietnam reports first avian flu outbreak

"Vietnam confirmed its first outbreak of H5N8 avian influenza last Friday in the northern province of Quang Ninh, according to the 
agriculture ministry."

6. Consumer behaviour on products link to outbreak highlighted in survey

A rise in Salmonella infections in the UK from eat frozen chicken products is being investigated by The Food Standards Agency (FSA). A survey carried out, along with Food Standards Scotland (FSS), has shown more about people's attitudes when handling frozen chicken products in the home following the large Salmonella outbreak.

7. Fewer outbreaks but increase in recalls in Finland

According to a new report, the number of foodborne outbreaks decreased for the second year in a row in Finland. A total of 34 outbreaks were recorded in 2020 compared to 50 in 2019.
