We celebrated our Father’s Day Breakfast last week and I thank the P&F event coordinator Mrs Christou and her team of volunteers for providing such a great breakfast for Dads, Grandads and children. We are blessed with our fathers and I hope many of you take the opportunity to be a part of the Fathering Project events also provided by our P&F Association. Congratulations to Mrs Goldie and the Junior and Senior Choirs for a beautiful performance as part of the One Big Voice Choir at the RAC Arena last Friday night. There were over 6500 primary aged children singing and dancing together, it was a joyous event. We only get to participate in exceptional events like this with the support of our teaching staff and parents. Many early morning rehearsals were held by Mrs Goldie and I am grateful to the parents who got their children to choir practice on time. Our Friday night event morphed into a Saturday morning event at ECU Joondalup with four Tournament Of Minds teams competing in the first round of the competition. Mrs Hardwicke, Mrs Elliot, Mrs Hince and Mrs Fenlon have spent many hours working with the students in both the TOM Squad and the TOM Teams. Congratulations to the students in all four teams as they have all been successful in moving to the next round. Our Lady of Grace has a proud tradition of success in TOM and this year we broadened the access to TOM by developing a TOM Squad that eventually became the TOM Teams. I would like to thank all of those children in the TOM Squad who by their participation contributed to the success of the TOM Teams. A more detailed account of the TOM Teams’ success is provided in this newsletter. Included in this newsletter is a link to G.I.F.T. or Growing in Faith Together. This is a publication from the Our Lady of Grace Parish and consists of short reflections on our faith that are relevant to family life. You are invited to take some time to read and share these with your family. The Charism of the Sisters of The Holy Family of Nazareth is one that encourages us to find God in the everyday. A special focus on families, modelled on the Holy Family, provides us the opportunity to share these publications with you. Tradition has it that Anne and Joachim were the Grandparents of Jesus and had a special place in the life of Mary. We have many grandparents that are an active part of our school community and they bring a unique gift to us as a community. Grandparents’ Day is a time when we can celebrate grandparents at our school. On Friday 13th all grandparents are invited to spend the morning with us starting in the MPA at 8.35am, followed by a concert, classroom visits and then a morning tea in the Seidliska Centre provided by our Parents & Friends Association. This year we are extending the invitation to our parish grandparents as well. Electronic Invitations have been sent to all families and hard copies to the eldest child. I look forward to welcoming many grandparents to our school, please be aware that because of space only grandparents will be able to attend the morning. If you have concerns about mobility of your child’s grandparent please contact the office for assistance. Families with surnames A-K are asked to bring a savoury plate and surnames L-Z a sweet plate for the morning tea. Please deliver these to the Seidliska Centre (Discovery Kids) before school. The P&F Coordinator of this event, Diana Guttridge, is looking for volunteers on the afternoon of the 12th and on the morning of the 13th from 10am please contact Diana on 0415 096740. The left hand panel is the Archangel Gabriel and the right hand panel is Our Blessed Mother Mary. The two panels allow us to contemplate the Annunciation when Mary said “yes” to God’s request to bear his Son Jesus for a waiting world. As a whole: we have Mary’s “yes” – the beginning of our Christian Faith – the Alpha and our completion - the Omega, as we enter into the unity and dignity of the Risen Christ. A BIG thank you to all the generous Mum's who volunteered their time to help with food prep, setting up, serving, cooking, packing up and cleaning; a huge job catering for so many in a short period of time. The following families kindly donated prizes for our raffle: O'Rourke, Davey, Doherty, Pozo, Romeo, Varricchio and Green. We thank you for your generosity and contribution. There was some surplus food from the breakfast which was donated to the not-for-profit organisation, Uniting Care West (Tranby Centre), who were very appreciative to receive it to distribute amongst the disadvantaged in the community.
