Introducing GSBI® TECh: A Commitment to Continued Accompaniment
by Alex Pan
Continued growth through continued accompaniment - this is the impetus of our Global Social Benefit Institute Technology Entrepreneurship for Change (GSBI® TECh) program. GSBI TECh was launched to help alumni social enterprises from our accelerator programs and laureates from The Tech Awards break out of their growth plateaus and scale up. Our cohort of 10 social enterprises are showcasing their work tonight at The Tech Museum of Innovation. To learn more about these social enterprises and Miller Center’s role in supporting their scaling efforts, read Alex Pan's blog post here→. Global Social Benefit Fellows in Salt Lake City
by Joe Curran "Nothing about us without us can be for us" - These words from Mayor of Stockton Michael Tubbs are a timely reminder to Global Social Benefit Fellow '18 Joe Curran to always keep people at the center of solutions when addressing challenges. A current challenge of the social impact space that Joe has identified from attending the Student Coalition for Social Impact hosted by Sorenson Impact Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, is the lack of accountability in impact investing. "If impact investors are serious about making their capital work better for people, it should be their responsibility to mold to the needs of social enterprises and the people they serve, not the other way around." To learn more about Joe's takeaways from the Summit, read his blog here →. The Importance of Gender Lens Investing
Gender lens investing, the practice of investing with the focus on women-led enterprises and improving the lives of women, has been gaining traction in the venture capital world today. GSBI Women's Economic Empowerment Fellow Hira Saeed highlights major venture capitalists that are leading this movement, and explores why gender lens investing is so essential to the entrepreneurship landscape.
