The National Brain Appeal Newsletter May 2019 No Images? Click here Our supporting roleThis year's Annual Lecture will look at the projects we fund that provide essential support for Queen Square patients – and we'd love to see you there! This year our speakers include Professors Alex Leff and Jenny Crinion, who will be talking about the UK’s first high-dose aphasia therapy service. Fully funded by The National Brain Appeal, doors will open this spring to the first patients. They will receive 7.5 hours of therapy a day, five days a week, for three weeks – a huge increase on the amount they currently receive in hospital before discharge. Clinicians are convinced this will boost the level of recovery, making a huge difference to their lives. Also on the podium will be Professors Nick Fox and Sebastian Crutch. They will talk about their plans to expand the Rare Dementia Support service – growing the online community of expert support, increasing the level of research into these rarer forms of dementia; and improving education and training for professionals. They will also be revealing exciting plans for the world’s first centre for those affected by rare and young-onset dementia. If you would like to come to this free event, with a drinks reception afterwards and the chance to chat informally with the clinicians, researchers and charity team, then please RSVP below and let us know if you would like to bring guests with you. Tuesday 18 June Can you spare a minute today? The Ecclesiastical Society has launched a new 'Movement for Good' in which a number of charities can benefit from small grants. Brain BuddyNational Hospital patients Lisa Upton and Sarah Chase-Bullock have set up a support group called Brain Buddy for anyone who has been through – or is facing – brain surgery. They have already hosted two hugely successful evenings at The National Hospital, in which they talk about their personal experiences of having surgery at Queen Square. Surgeons and neurologists will also be there to provide medical information. The next talk is on 26 June, from 6.30-8.30pm at 33 Queen Square.
