Stop Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WRMSD) Resulting from the Performance of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound

ASUM CEO, Lyndal Macpherson, recently joined the Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WRMSD) Design Summit held in the USA to address stopping work-related musculoskeletal disorders resulting from the performance of diagnostic medical ultrasound.

The Alliance brings together all specialties in the USA, with ASUM being the first international with representation from 32 organisations represented and 54 attendees working together to address this debilitating issue. ASUM was proud to be the first international organisation to support and contribute to this alliance. While we understand the reporting of injuries is understated, the alarming statistics show 20% will have career ending injuries. This means we need to do more to ensure we intervene on injuries earlier.

Later in the year we will distribute a global survey that will look at this issue and help us work through a solution.

Outreach support required next Friday

ASUM Outreach

ASUM Outreach are calling for a volunteer to support the work of the Macquarie University Global Health Society. Details are;

Event: "Global Maternal & Newborn Clinical Skills Night" and birthing kit assembly
Date: 18th October 2019
Time: 5:30pm-8:30pm

Venue: Macquarie University, North Ryde NSW

This event will provide medical students with a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge on maternal and newborn care and provide some insight, through workshops led by health professionals, into the major maternal health issues in Australia and overseas. During the event, attendees will be assembling birthing kits that contain basic materials required for a safe and clean birth, which will be packaged and sent to developing countries. MUGHS purchases the contents for the birthing kits through the Birthing Kit Foundation Australia (BKFA), who are also responsible for distributing the assembled kits to communities in need.

We are hoping to have a sonographer or sonologist support this event with a demonstration of obstetric ultrasound. If you are available to volunteer for this in Sydney, please contact the ASUM office by emailing outreach@asum.com.au
