Director's Message

With autumn arriving, we are planning for our second university closedown which is scheduled for 19 to 23 April. The Graduate Centre will be closed from 4:00pm Friday, 16 April 2021 and will reopen at 10:00am on Tuesday, 27 April 2021 after the ANZAC Day public holiday.  All AGC staff will be on leave and unavailable to respond to calls or emails during this time. Please be assured we will attend to all enquiries once we are back. All buildings will be in ‘weekend-mode’ accessible by card only. Please plan with your supervisors what you can do during the closedown, as soon as possible.

You may have heard already that the Access Adelaide student portal will be replaced by MyAdelaide in a series of releases between April and September.  The research candidature management page will be part of the first release in April. The layout is much more user-friendly and the page provides useful links to our website and documents/forms. Please watch out for emails with more detailed information.

Student consultation is now open regarding the University's ICAC Response to create a culture of trust and respect. Students can submit an Expression of Interest in doing a 1-on-1 interview or send emails to our appointed consultants KPMG. In addition, there will be pop-up engagement spaces on all three campuses in the coming weeks. More info on student consultation is available here.

Running low on stationary? Ecoversity will be running a stationary reuse event in Hub Central tomorrow Wednesday 17 March. Students will be able to pick up free surplus office supplies, such as folders, pens, scissors or notebooks. Don’t come too late!

I hope you are enjoying the last week of the festival season in beautiful Adelaide.

Postgraduate Scholarship Opportunities

The Adelaide Graduate Centre maintains a searchable database of available scholarship opportunities (both full scholarships and supplementary scholarships), funded by both the University of Adelaide and external funding bodies. While the majority of available scholarships are awarded as part of the standard admission and scholarship rounds for domestic and international students, some are awarded at different times throughout the year, and may have a separate application process.

Visit the Postgraduate Scholarships website regularly for up to date information on current scholarship opportunities.

Westpac Future Leaders

Congratulations to the 2021 Westpac Future Leaders Scholars who are investigating solutions to some of our most pressing global problems through their postgraduate research and projects.

Bridget Smart (Mathematical Sciences) is undertaking her MPhil project which aims to understand and identify influence in online social networks.

Douglas Radford (Engineering) will focus his PhD research on developing novel methods for optimizing decision-making with respect to selecting mitigation strategies to reduce natural hazard risk.

Stacey Savin (Medical Sciences) will undertake her MPhil in immunology with a hope to one day contribute to the currently shallow understanding of autoimmunity and the onset of autoimmunity in offspring.

We look forward to following you on this exciting journey! Find out more about the Westpac Future Leaders Scholarship here.

Student Life Video Series

Want to be part of tackling stigma? Student Life is producing a short video series titled “Life is….”designed to do just that, and is currently seeking volunteers to share their experiences dealing with mental health or wellbeing challenges. From stress or anxiety, to challenging relationships, public speaking jitters or doldrum motivation - they want to hear from our community about the challenges you have faced. Help shine a light on shared struggles to support others to access help.

What's involved? Following participation in an initial group discussion, a video theme will be agreed upon. Participants will then record a short video sharing their experiences. The video will be edited and made available to the student community through the Wellbeing Hub and student social media channels.

Time commitment? Approx. 2-3 hours over 2 meetings (initial discussion and video recording). Recording will start early April. Email Nicola Venditozzi for more information.

University Library

Have you recently commenced your HDR program and are preparing to create your research data management plan?  The Library provides a range of support materials for Research Data Management, including a comprehensive online course, that help you with preparing, organising, analysing, keeping and sharing your digital research data.

The Managing Your Research Data course attracts three CaRST credits upon completion, and requires you to upload a data management worksheet. The worksheet will then form the basis of your Data Management Plan, which is due within six months of commencing your research project and at completion of your candidature. Enrol in Managing Your Research Data.
