A memorandum of understanding has been signed at the 5G-ACIA 10th plenary meeting in Paris marks the beginning of a collaboration between two major 5G networks. The UK has clear ambition to be a global leader in Industrial Digitalisation, and a leading country in 5G deployment. Made Smarter Review, an industrial led review, also set out a vision for UK to become a global leader in Industrial Digitalisation by 2030. The UK journey towards Industrial 5G has been further accelerated by the UK Government funded Worcestershire 5G project and Digital Catapult’s Made in 5G report, provided valuable insights on the barriers, opportunities and lessons learned in adopting 5G for the UK manufacturing sector. The MoU is a symbol of UK5G’s strong commitment to international collaboration – connecting with the world leading industrial organisations to create global 5G ecosystems, exchange learnings, and enable UK businesses to roll out 5G innovations through global standards to create economies of scale. I am delighted to have signed the MoU with 5G-ACIA on behalf of UK5G and I am keen to see the relationship between UK5G and 5G-ACIA develop further. We warmly welcome 5G-ACIA to hold a one-day 5G-ACIA workshop on 22 January 2020 for interested parties. The workshop is hosted in Ricoh Arena, Coventry, West Midlands, UK, coordinated by u-blox (a 5G-ACIA UK member) and supported by Ericsson, UK5G, CW, WM5G and WMGC et al. The workshop will explore how the ongoing 5G developments are transferred to the industrial domain both globally and in the UK, and provide viable industrial use case examples. This includes possible integration concepts and migration paths, how 5G-ACIA is bringing the new ecosystem together to establish common language and a shared understanding of industry specific demands.
