Spring Blood Drive, April 23

We are hosting a Bloodworks Northwest blood drive on Tuesday, April 23, 8:30 am-2:30 pm. Students ages 16 and 17 need a signed permission form; ages 18 and up do not need a permission form. The sign-up board is outside the office in the Main Hall. Parents can sign up on the board in the Main Hall or by emailing Heather Hall. Information about eligibility is available on the Bloodworks Northwest website.

Eighth Graders Participating in Carry5's Walk for Water

The entire 8th grade will be carrying water for five kilometers during Water1st International's Carry5 event, which raises money for sustainable clean water, toilet, and hygiene-education projects for communities in Ethiopia, Honduras, Bangladesh, and Mozambique.

Last year, Northwest students raised nearly $45,000. If you would like to donate to the cause, you can do so on the team page here.

PreACT for Sophomores, May 11

The College Counseling and Learning Resources offices will oversee the PreACT for 10th grade students on Saturday, May 11, at 8:00 am. Our goal is to expose 10th grade students to the format and content of the ACT exam. Students will have a similar chance to practice the SAT when they take the PSAT in October of their junior year.

Families should have received an email from Anna Wilsey on Thursday, March 27, with additional information and a link to register. The registration deadline is Tuesday, April 16.

Videos from Spring Dance Showcase

Did you miss our sold-out Spring Dance Showcase? Don't worry, we have you covered. You can stream the entire performance here (case sensitive password is RxHvq4zH).

We are also proud to present a special video performance from Chloe C. '20, who was unable to perform with the Performing Dance Ensemble due to injury. She recorded a film with this statement:

"Throughout the film there is never a shot of full body, head to toe. This piece was inspired by an injury that prevented me from walking for many months. Helping me discover that we are all capable of dancing. We are not limited to the spaces we create for ourselves. A special thank you to all of those in collaboration with this film!"

Parent Education Evening: The Self-Driven Child with Dr. Bill Stixrud, April 29

On April 29, 6:30-8:30 pm, at University Prep, we are excited to partner with University Prep to present an evening with Dr. Bill Stixrud, a clinical neuropsychologist, founder of The Stixrud Group, and author of The Self-Driven Child. Dr. Stixrud is a member of the faculty at Children's National Medical Center and is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the George Washington School of Medicine.

Please RSVP for the event here. Childcare will be offered.

Pizazz Supports Access, Equity, and Inclusivity

Pizazz is the school’s fun and lively spring fundraiser that raises awareness and financial support, ensuring access to a Northwest education and inclusivity for all our students. The evening includes a raise the paddle, dessert dash, and even a signature cocktail. Each table is decorated uniquely, based on a book. No table? No problem! We try our best to place individuals with grade-level families. You won’t want to miss it, so register online today.

We still have room for a few more table captains – a fun (and easy) volunteer opportunity. Simply agree to host a table for ten, choose a book title, and invite others to join you. The event planning committee can offer its creativity for décor if help is needed. Interested? Contact Julie Lombardo for more information and inspiration.

Time to Plan for Ashland!

We are excited to offer Upper School students the chance to attend the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. The trip runs the weekend right after the last day of school, leaving after 8th Grade Graduation on Friday, June 14, and returning in the evening on Monday, June 17. For more information, please contact Jeff Blair, Laura Ferri, Sarah Porter, or Justin Peters. Permission slips will be available online soon.
