I Feel Like a Woman!” is playing everywhere and the Beckham’s’ wedding is on the cover of “People” magazine. Are we back in 2002?!... These latest headlines have me feeling younger than my last Botox injection. Unfortunately, going back in time isn’t always a good thing – and I’m not talking about the fact that bucket hats are unflattering on my head shape. I’m talking about the regression of women’s rights… Nowadays underground abortion groups are already preparing for the end of Roe v Wade, which could come as early as June. “Atlantic” journalist Jessica Bruder recently journeyed into the world of illegal abortions – describing one of the devices used as a cross between an “at-home beer-brewing kit” and a “seventh-grade science experiment.” SAY WHAT?!! Click here to read Bruder’s full take on what the future of abortion in America will look like. Man, I feel like a woman... with the right to choose! ‘The Taliban Cannot Erase Us,’ Says Winner of the International Women’s Rights Award(Credit: Chloé Hygen/Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy via cnn.com) “The Taliban cannot erase us, they can’t. This is not like the 1990s or before – they have to accept [women]. They have no other choice,” former Afghan politician and women’s rights activist Zarifa Ghafari told CNN, after accepting the 2022 International Women's Rights Award at the Gena Convention. In 2018, at 24 -- though she admits she pretended to be two years older in order to qualify -- Ghafari was appointed as one of just a few female mayors in Afghanistan. "“I was able to show the power and the ability of women and to prove that we can do anything," she said. Unfortunately, everything changed for Ghafari after America withdrew its troops from Afghanistan and the Taliban took control of the country last year. After surviving several assassination attempts by Taliban, Ghafari decided to flee the country, escaping in the footwell of a car. Now living in Germany, Ghafari continues to raise her voice for the people of her homeland and uses her radio channel and humanitarian foundation – the Assistance and Promotion of Afghan Women organization – to advocate for women’s rights. Millie Bobby Brown On Her Directorial Debut (Photo credit: Getty Images via TeenVogue.com) Millie Bobby Brown has once again proved that she can do it all. The 18-year-old actor, producer, and entrepreneur is also now a director, after having recently made her directorial debut. In collaboration with Samsung, Millie directed her first short film — which she also stars in — shot entirely using the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s Nightography features. The short was also a collaboration with her brother Charlie, who served as the director of photography on the film. Along with the voiceover narration of an original poem, written and performed by Brown, the film depicts a young girl growing into her own and tapping into resilience. "I went through so many different drafts,” Brown told “Teen Vogue.” ‘What I can say, what I can touch on?’ Personally, but also globally, there's a message for young girls and young women who are going through growth in society, in the public eye, in school, in college. This is a universal message [intended to] empower young women to authentically be themselves and accept their inner child." Alyssa Nakken Becomes the First Woman to Coach on the Field in MLB History(Source: si.com) History was made last week in the Giants vs. Padres game as Alyssa Nakken became the first woman MLB coach to make an on-field appearance during a game. Nakken got her chance when Antoan Richardson was ejected after supposedly giving directions to outfielders. Nakken replaced Richardson as the first base coach for the Giants. When Nakken walked on the field, she received a loud round of applause from the crowd and Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer shook her hand and showed his appreciation for the coach. This isn’t the first time Nakken has made MLB history. Back in 2020, she was hired as a full-time major league assistant coach on the Giants, which made her the first woman to work full-time in MLB. She has previously worked first base in spring training games. The Midas List 2022: Return Of The Top Female Investors Anna Fang (Source: Getty via Forbes.com) According to a recent Pitchbook report, female-founded companies shattered the previous annual deal value record in just the first three quarters of 2021, and outperformed the broader market when it comes to exit size and timing. What’s more, the number of US-based female check writers has increased by nearly 3.5% since 2019, with women now holding 15.4% of GP positions – while there is much more progress necessary in this area, it's clear that change is being slowly enacted across the industry. For two years in a row the Midas List, an annual ranking by Forbes magazine of the best dealmakers in high-tech and life science venture capital, featured these twelve leading female VCs who are a sign of continued industry progress.
Pamela Anderson Makes Her Broadway Debut in 'Chicago' to a Standing Ovation(Source: Getty via Today.com) Months after being the subject of Hulu’s fictionalized series, “Pam and Tommy,“ a project she was not involved in, Anderson returned to the spotlight to tackle the leading role of Roxie Hart in “Chicago.” She started her eight-week run in the musical Tuesday night and was awarded with a standing ovation from the audience. “I just feel like this is really a moment for me to shine for once,” Anderson told “Good Morning America” in March of her Broadway debut. “I’m doing this for myself, which is rare.” She also added that the role of Roxie Hart “feels a little parallel” to her own life. “The media is so powerful and it’s really kind of — it’s just interesting how it’s affected my life,” she said. “You just got to make the most of what you got. You got to make the most of any opportunity, and sometimes things will seem like a bad thing; you can turn it into a good thing.” Did We Just Become Best Friends?
