One of those measures is an extended Christmas closedown period from 18 December 2020 until 10 January 2021. We are currently in the planning stages of determining arrangements during this period, and we will communicate as soon as more information becomes available. Because each project is different, there is no straight answer for what each student should do during this period. We strongly encourage you to take annual leave. It has been an extraordinary stressful year for everyone, and we all deserve some time to relax and refresh. As you may be aware, students are entitled to take four weeks of annual leave per year. Annual leave does not affect your milestone due dates, or candidature/scholarship expiry dates and any scholarship payments will continue as usual. The other option is to use this time to write parts of your thesis, analyse your data or work on publications. If however, it is critical for your research to access labs or other specialist facilities during this time, you can apply for an exemption. A template will be distributed shortly with instructions on the approval process. A quick reminder that the Annual Review of Progress is due soon (31 October). All the information on the Annual Review process and the recommended timelines is available on the Graduate Centre’s website, and of course, our staff are available to answer any questions you may have. Take care and stay safe, Doreen Krumbiegel Tip of the Month Please include your student ID in emails to the Graduate Centre The Graduate Centre receives a lot of emails every day and we endeavour to respond as soon as possible. Please ensure that you include your student ID within your email as this will allow Graduate Centre staff to access your candidature or scholarship records easier and answer your query sooner. This is especially important if you use a shortened version of your formal name or if you have a common name. 2021 Major Scholarship Round (applications close 31 October 2020) Applications for the 2021 Major Scholarship Round close soon for:
