Reflection
|
|
|
Lord, you have given skills and talents to each of us, and you are pleased when we use them well. I ask that I may work well with others and bring out the best in them as well as in myself. Lead me to live in such a way that I show appreciation for the achievements of all who use their talents well. Amen.

Hello Parents and Friends of St. Anne’s
Last weekend we completed our celebrations of the Eucharist. As per last weekend both masses were very special and meaningful and I congratulate all candidates. Our major fundraiser is looming; don’t forget your dinner dance ticket for June 15th!
Enrolments
Please grab an enrolment form if you have a child beginning school next year. Once completed could they please be returned to the office? Thank you. On a further note we will be starting to organise class structures shortly. It would be appreciated if parents could advise me if their child will not be attending St. Anne’s next year (current Foundation to Year 5 students.)
Interschool Sport
This Friday we play Our Holy Redeemer, Surrey Hills away. Games start at 9:30am. We are also playing a “catch up” game on Wednesday June 12th at 1:30pm against Belle Vue at Belle Vue Primary School.
Staffing
As of today, Julie Millsom is going on long service leave, returning to work on July 22nd. We wish Julie a great break. In Julie’s absence, Gail Swainger, who has done much teaching at St. Anne’s, will be teaching 5/6ML Monday to Wednesday. This Friday we welcome Julie Matheson back to the office.

Religious Education
Congratulations to Maya C, Max, Tilda, Maya M, Jesse, Jessica, Chloe, Lucas, Erin, Tess, Ben, Hamish, Freya, and Anastasia who have celebrated their First Eucharist over the last two weekends.
Each year, the children who have received their First Eucharist are invited to join the Altar Server Team at the Parish. We encourage you to speak to your child about this special role, and please fill out the form which has come home. Father Toan spoke to the children yesterday afternoon, and will be running training sessions with parents Louise Gee and Belinda Collins on Tuesdays the 18th and 25th of June.

Sacrament of Confirmation
Year 6 candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Next week there will be a form coming home asking for an indication if your child will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation.
There will be an evening for both parent and their child before hand on the 30th July at 7.30 pm.
We have been fortunate to secure Maria Forde as a guest presenter on the evening.
Please note, if you are wanting your child to receive this sacrament, it is an expectation of both the parish and the school that this evening be attended.
If you are having difficulty meeting this requirement, you need to speak with either Greg James, Clare Bellio or Father John.

Social Justice
As our Social Justice Captains Jessica, Lucinda and Nathan mentioned at assembly, please search through your wardrobes for any unused blankets or jackets/coats of any sizes to donate to our Vinnies appeal.
This is a very good way of you showing your child how we help our wider community without having to constantly put our hands in our pockets for the ‘gold coin’ collections. If you have any non perishable goods or toiletries to give if you don’t have coats or blankets, please send them along.
Let our boxes overflow with your goods and generosity!

Occupational Health and Safety
Dear Parents/Carers,
It has been a long standing rule at St Anne’s, that children are not to play with any sport equipment- example: balls, bats before or after school.
The adventure playground is also out of bounds before or after school-unless you are there supervising your child.
The reason we have these rules in place is for the safety of all our children here at St Anne’s.
It has come to our attention recently, we have had too many ‘little’ accidents happening on the school grounds before and after school, because these rules are not being observed.
For the safety of all children-and yours in particular, we would appreciate your cooperation with this.

Year 6 2018
Last Monday the staff hosted a special afternoon tea for our Year 6's of last year. It was great to see the crew back together again - all of the children are enjoying their new school.
Less is more- Editing out strengthens our purpose
Many people find that they become more productive and purposeful if they remove the things that conflict with their decisions or that make their decisions difficult. Life can be made easier if we delete whatever is unnecessary from our environment. Otherwise, our environment creates friction for us – by using up decision making energy in the very small aspects of each day.
For example, I am much more productive in my reading, writing and development of new materials when I close the emails tab on my computer. I am much more able to be present to my wife and children when I don’t have my phone with me. This is subtraction for productivity.
Elimination is often the fastest way to progress and gain forward momentum. Many people find that ‘less is more’. So, what things can you edit out from your environment?
ELIMINATE STUFF – clean out your wardrobe and your car, delete unused phone apps, clear out the pantry and fridge. The less stuff you have to clutter up your life, the fewer decisions you need to make each day.
ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS – Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in the brain that is associated with pleasure. It's intended to help us make correct choices, but these days many of us are out of whack – checking email and social media, mindlessly surfing the web, eating something sugary and sweet – all of these activities release dopamine. Removing the distractions that give us these guilty pleasures allows us to concentrate on what is really important – whether that is being more productive at work or spending quality time with our family.
ELIMINATE OPTIONS – Having more options is not necessarily a good thing. It can lead to indecision and half-committed choices, and we are left unsatisfied and wondering if we made the right choice. Sometimes, options serve as nothing more than distractions, so if we can eliminate some of those options it can help us remove some of the internal conflict from our life. The fewer choices we have to make, the more powerful our choices will be.
ELIMINATE PEOPLE – Whilst having friends and colleagues is important, it is also important to choose your friends. Sometimes we need to actively cultivate our friendship groups so that we spend more time with those whose lifestyle and habits are most like our own (or like the habits we would like to have). As Dan Sullivan said, “Surround yourself with people who remind you more of your future than your past.”
ELIMINATE BRAIN CLUTTER – Our brains are wired so that they remember the important things – not every minor detail of our lives. Our head is built for having ideas, not for holding them. When you get a flash of insight or some new idea, immediately record it. Get it down on paper or record it in audio. Outsource your thinking to your environment to free your working memory space – e.g. get a journal, use a calendar you can write on, use quick voice on your phone, have a post-it note pad beside your bed.
Editing out and eliminating is a genuine path forward to a slightly more purposeful and simple life. I suggest you try just one of these strategies this week. If it makes a difference to your wellbeing, stick with it.

Earn and Learn
The Woolworths Earn and Learn promotion is with us again and St Anne’s is participating. Start, collecting your stickers for every $10 you spend at Woolworths supermarket and place them on the Sticker Sheets available at Woolworths stores and the school office. A collection box is being organised at Woolworths, Kew and at the school office. The more stickers we collect, the more educational resources we can be earnt for the school. The promotion continues until the 25th June 2019, so get down to Woolies for your groceries and don’t forget to collect your stickers whenever you and your family are doing your weekly shop . We appreciate your assistance.
