Big decision coming soon! In early July BATC’s petition to invalidate the sprinkler mandate was heard in the Minnesota Court of Appeals. The judges have 90 days to review all materials submitted in this case and will render a decision by mid-October.

BATC's argument was multi-pronged, focusing first on the sprinkler mandate being out of line with code norms across the country. Also highlighted, was the lack of an adequate record of data established by the Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) to support the 4500 square-foot threshold and the costs of the mandate itself.

We will keep you posted as soon as we have a decision from the court!

According to NAHB, on a three-month moving average basis the open position rate for the industry held constant at 2.1% for July. The open rate has been trending upward since 2012, with the current three-month moving average near the cycle high set during May (2.4%). Read more >>
