The analysis reveals an indicative, direct link between career talks and students’ outperforming their predicted grades. Oxford University AdmissionsOxford University has unveiled two access schemes which will enable more academically talented students from under-represented backgrounds to apply successfully to study. Full details and a video can be found here. What Employers Want in a CVResearchers at Keele University have published a report detailing exactly what employers are looking for in a CV. The web page gives some useful bullet points, but the report is quite lengthy. However, page 20 gives a useful table showing what gets applicants shortlisted or rejected. Discover! Creative Careers WeekScheduled for 18th – 22nd November 2019, this week-long event will see hundreds of employers from across the creative industries opening their doors to students aged 11 and over. Participating schools will have the opportunity to engage with at least one Discover! day in a local creative industry workplace. For more details, including a link to register click here. Free Apprenticeship Support ExtendedFunding for the Apprenticeship Support & Knowledge for Schools (ASK) programme has been extended until July 2022. In addition, from 1st August 2019 the programme will include KS3 activity and engagement. This service is free, so request support for next year now. Cyber Apprentice EveningsHMGCC are holding 2 Apprentice Information Evenings in September aimed at Teachers/Careers Advisers along with up to 3 students interested in developing a career within IT, technology or engineering. Students must meet the following criteria: At least 18 years of age by 31/03/2020; A British Citizen; At least 1 British Parent; Resident Primarily in the UK for the last 10 Years. Tasty CareersFor comprehensive information and resources on the Food and Drink industry, Tasty Careers is a great website to visit. It includes advice on study pathways, qualifications, career paths and job choices. You can also use the Contact Us section to request a visit from a Tasty Careers Ambassador, who will already be working at a local food and drink business. Careers in SportWith both the Women’s Football World Cup and Cricket World Cup in the news, this website would be a great resource for students aspiring to a sport related career. There is a Careers Section including job profiles, a Jobs Section, with the latest opportunities and a University Section, highlighting places to study sports degree courses. Dates for your diaryTeenTech Milton Keynes An interactive event that helps young people understand the opportunities in contemporary industry by giving them the chance to get hands-on with the latest science and technology. Taking place on 11th July 2019 in Milton Keynes, groups of 10 Year 8 or 9 students can attend for a £50 refundable booking fee. Find out more. MK Innovates This event on 11th & 12th October 2019 is a festival to celebrate and inspire careers in STEM. Held in Middleton Hall, Central Milton Keynes, the event is free and open from 10 am to 4.30 pm daily. Skills LondonSkills London is a great jobs and careers event for 15-24 year olds and their families. Held on 15 & 16 November 2019 at ExCeL London, it provides visitors with the opportunity to discover careers through interactive, inspirational activities and demonstrations. Find out more. WorldSkills UK LIVE WorldSkills UK LIVE will be held on 21st – 23rd November 2019 at the NEC Birmingham. This is the largest skills, apprenticeships and careers event in the UK, so visit the website to register for updates. |
