A visiting priest, Father Greg Donovan spoke about the significant of sharing a meal and stories as a family. His analogy was that the Mass is a special gathering time where we can share stories and a meal. The process around your child preparing for and committing to Sacramental preparation is a special time in any family. It is an opportunity for families to strengthen their faith and in some ways for families to learn alongside their children. The Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation are Sacraments of Initiation; this means the child receiving the Sacrament is initiated into the Parish community. In the Perth Archdiocese the Sacraments are Parish led and school supported, we work closely with Our Lady of Grace Parish in this program. My thanks to Clare Broad, Teresa Wandek and our Year 4 teachers Mrs Alexander and Mrs McCormack for their work with the children preparing to receive the Eucharist for the first time. You may have noticed some changes to signage around our school in the past couple of weeks. We are most fortunate to have a P&F who are a vital support for our school who are keen to communicate with our school community about events that raise both friends and funds. A great example of community building events by the P&F was our recent Mother’s Day Morning Tea and Stall. Our mothers and grandmothers were spoiled with a lovely morning tea and some amazing gifts. Many parents have contributed to our P&F over the history of our school. The large noticeboard recognizing the contribution of friends and families that was outside the Multi Purpose Area will be appropriately rehoused inside. This may take a little while to ensure an appropriate form of recognition is given, watch this space for what it will look like. Congratulations to our Swimming Squad who competed in the A Division Catholic Primary School Interschool Swimming Carnival last Friday. We had a strong squad of swimmers and supporters. A credible third place was achieved out of a field of eight schools. Well done girls and boys you did us proud. Speaking of being proud, I wanted to acknowledge the students from our Year 3 and Year 5 classes who along with all other same aged students in Australia undertook the very first NAPLAN Online assessments. I attended many of the assessment sessions and was impressed by the focus, calm and general positive attitude by all students. My thanks to their teachers and Mrs Hardwicke for her organization and preparation. The logistics of the program is complex and we have fed back to Catholic Education Office and School Standards and Curriculum Authority minor issues we faced with the platform. There are several parent workshops coming up that I encourage you to attend. They are at various times to suit busy families and working lives. The workshops are interactive and all contributions are welcome. They are all held in the MPA. Library Roster Stepping Back in Time - Peninsular Farm A Perfect Day by Jackson Rose 2G First, we had a tour of the house. I saw a model of the boat that the Hardey family went on. I felt happy and perfect. My favourite part was the craft when we made a wind mill. Amazing Peninsula Farm by Addison Starling 2G First, we went on the tour. We learnt that Peninsula Farm is 180 years old. We also learnt about the things they did by hand. We learnt about the foods they ate. My favourite part was the tour. I felt happy, excited and interested. PARKING Interschool Swimming Carnival Tournament of Minds Process 2019 The Sacraments are a wonderful time to reconnect with and deepen our Faith. On Tuesday the 14th of May, parents of the Year 4 classes attended a Faith Formation Meeting in the Parish Centre. This was a great opportunity for them to better develop their understanding of the Sacrament of Eucharist which their children will be receiving at the end of June. The Eucharist is the central and greatest sacrament of the Church. The Sacrament of Eucharist, along with Baptism and Confirmation is a Sacrament of Initiation into a parish. In the Perth Archdiocese, our Sacraments are Parish led and School supported. The Sacrament of Eucharist is called the ‘source and summit of the Christian life’. Please pray for all the children in the Parish as they prepare themselves to receive this very important Sacrament. Lord Jesus, Bless our children as they prepare to receive the Holy Eucharist for the first time. Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship. Thank you for their innocence and goodness. May their hands, extended in anticipation of your Body and Blood, inspire all of us to cherish this sacred sacrament. Amen.
Rhyme Time Teresa Italian Day - Republic Day, also known as Festa della Repubblica, is a National holiday in Italy on June 2nd each year. It celebrates the day when Italians voted to abolish the monarchy in 1946 so their country could become a Republic. We will be celebrating this day on Wednesday 29th May. The children will be able to wear free dress to school on this day, dressing in the Italian colours: green (verde), white (bianco) and red (rosso) or light blue (azzurro), the colour of the national football team. Children will be able to purchase a slab of pizza, drink and a fro-yo combo for $6.50, arancini, drink and fro-yo combo for $7.50 or gluten free pizza, drink and fro-yo combo for $8.50 for lunch on the day. Orders need to be in to the canteen by Wednesday 22nd May for puchasing reasons. Orders can be completed online at https://quickcliq.com.au/. Please find attached the Canteen Menu Alternatively you can place your child's order in the class canteen bucket. If your child's order does not go through and they have no lunch, we will supply them with a sandwich. We will no longer have additional items available due to food wastage costs. We thank you for your continued support of the canteen.
