On-Airport Text-to-911 Now Available

SFO now offers a Text-to-911 service that enables anyone at the Airport to send a text message to SFO’s 911 dispatchers from their mobile phone or smart device. SFO’s Text-to-911 service is intended primarily for use in three emergency scenarios:

  • When an individual is in a situation where it is not safe to place a voice call to 911;
  • When an individual has a speech or hearing disability; and
  • When a medical emergency arises that renders the individual incapable of speaking.

We encourage people who have a police, fire, or medical emergency while at the airport to call 911 if they can, and text 9-1-1 if they cannot.

Travelers Rank SFO as the Best Airport in the U.S.

SkyTrax Passengers’ Choice Awards, considered the preeminent benchmark of airport quality in the world, has recognized SFO as the highest-rated airport in the United States and ranked it third overall in the “Best Airports 2020: 50 to 60 million passengers” category.

The SkyTrax World Airline and Airport Star Rating program is an international rating system that classifies airlines and airports by the quality of front-line product and staff service standards. Conducted annually, and voted for by travelers, it evaluates the travel experience from a variety of factors, including check-in, arrivals, departures, transfers, shopping, security, and immigration. The results are impartial and credible as they are without sponsorship, payment, or external influence. Because of this, the SkyTrax World Airport Awards are considered one of the most prestigious accolades for the global airport industry.

Our Move Toward Sustainable Aviation Fuel

In July, SFO reached a milestone in its push towards net-zero carbon. Neste, the world’s largest producer of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) made from waste and residue raw materials, successfully delivered its first batch of sustainable aviation fuel to the airport via pipeline, where it will be used by major airlines to reduce carbon emissions.

This milestone supports our goal to achieve "triple zero" as an airport, reaching not only zero net carbon but also zero net energy and zero waste going into landfills. It also helps airlines to achieve their own sustainability goals. We’re proud to be a pioneer in this effort to drive a change in the aviation industry to make the SAF supply chain more climate-friendly and further reduce the industry’s carbon footprint.

New SFO Museum Exhibition Celebrates Golden Gate Park

This year marks the 150th anniversary of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. To commemorate this occasion, we're proud to present an exhibition of historical photographs by R.J. Waters that date to the park's early days.

Waters documented daily life in Golden Gate Park between the years of 1896 and 1902, producing a small portfolio of silver gelatin prints that is now held in the collection of the San Francisco Public Library. These photographs feature early scenes of locations that remain recognizable to today’s visitors to the park.

R. J. Waters: Golden Gate Park is on view in Terminal 3, Departures Level, F Gates until November 19, 2020. It is part of the citywide celebration of the 150th anniversary of Golden Gate Park and presented in partnership with the San Francisco Parks Alliance and the San Francisco Public Library.
