Call for Statements of Interest for
West Oakland BART Station Development
Community Advisory Council

April 10, 2016

Dear Reader:
At the last community outreach meeting for the West Oakland BART Station Development, I had closed the meeting detailing that a community advisory council (CAC) would be established to sustain community involvement throughout the design and implementation of the development effort.  The purpose of the CAC will be to provide input, guidance, oversight, and recommendation to the West Oakland BART Station Development team as it finalizes and implements a development at the West Oakland BART Station.

Moving Forward / Application Process

In the very near future, relevant BART staff and the development team will initiate an application process for the selection of community members to serve on the CAC.  The eligibility standards and application process will be designed so that the goal of ensuring a balance of West Oakland perspectives that is inclusive of both business/non-profit and resident representation, as well as newer and longer-term representatives in each of those categories, is achieved.

Close to twenty people have already expressed interest in, or been recommended for appointment to, the CAC.  The CAC will consist of seven members.  As a result, not everyone who applies will be able to be appointed to the CAC.

If You Are Interested...

In you are interested in being added to the list of individuals for consideration for appointment to the CAC, please send a brief note of interest to the BART Project Manager for the West Oakland BART Station Development, Mr. Paul Voix, via email at pvoix@bart.gov by Friday, April 15, 2016.  Your email should not be a cover letter that attempts to distinguish your qualifications from other prospective appointees.  That is best saved for the application process, which Mr. Voix will share with you once it is ready.  Mr. Voix just needs to know that you are interested in being considered for appointment so that he can send you the application material when it becomes available.

I look forward to working with you and others to realize a meaningful transformation at the West Oakland BART Station.

Sincerely,

Zakhary Mallett, MCP
