Designing Environments exhibition: Assemblage

Dates: Thursday 24 September - Friday 9 October
Venue: Atrium (north side), MSD building

This exhibition of 1:100 'assemblage models' showcases work from Designing Environments.

Designers adopt a variety of compositional strategies to bring disparate conditions (objects, events, scenes) together to form ASSEMBLAGES.

MSD and Baldwin Spencer building hours extended

The MSD and Baldwin Spencer buildings will be open from 7am to 1am from Saturday 10 October to Friday 13 November, covering the final two weeks of semester 2, swot vac, and the exam period. 

If you are using public transport, please leave the campus with sufficient time to catch the last train/tram home.   If you are concerned for your safety when leaving the building, a security escort is available to take you to your car, closest public transport / taxi pickup point, colleges or other locations on or in the near vicinity of the central campus.  It is recommended that you book ahead of time by calling 8344 4674 or 1800 246 066 (free call).

Access to the building outside of hours, and to the print rooms at all times, is only available to ABP students who have completed the building induction.

Building Induction

In order to access the Melbourne School of Design building and/or the Baldwin Spencer building outside of business hours, students must read and acknowledge the terms and conditions set out on the Building Induction web page (login required).

Please note that access make take up to two working days to be activated.

Building Access and your Student Card

  • You must have your student card on you when you are in any ABP Buildings (and anywhere on campus)
  • You will be required to present your student card to Security staff if asked to do so (if you refuse you will be asked to leave)

The University of Melbourne is hosting the Times Higher Education World Academic Summit from 30 September until 2 October at the Melbourne School of Design.

Participants required: Understanding mobility for a sustainable future

Survey open: 1 October - 30 November 2015
Prize: Survey participants who meet particular requirements will receive a $50 gift card. All other eligible participants are entered into a prize draw for one of fifty $50 gift cards.

University students are invited to participate in a new survey that will inform urban and transport planners about people’s travel patterns in Melbourne - and possibilities for future improvements to the city.

The Victorian Future Mobility Sensing project, led by Prof Stephan Winter, is testing a new smartphone app to accurately survey participants’ travel behaviour across a number of days. Data collected will provide insights into participants' mobility patterns and satisfaction of transport choices.

The survey will run from 1 October to 30 November. Follow the link below to register. Participants who meet eligibility conditions (accessable via the survey website) may be eligible for a $50 gift card!

Tegan will dive into her own career path, including the amazing work she is doing in the Department, as well as helping you to explore the different career options in the field.

Fabrication Workshop Open Access for Students Every Weekday Afternoon

Do you want to use the Fabrication Workshop equipment? Do you want advice and assistance designing and building your models and projects?

If you do the Fabrication Workshop Machine Room and Studio Space is open every weekday afternoon between 1.00pm – 4.30pm for students to have hands-on access to use machines and hand tools. Experienced staff are also available during this time if you need advice and assistance with machinery or processes of making.

To gain access, complete the Fabrication Workshop Level 1 training online and complete the in person Level 2 training and inductions which run every Monday afternoon 1:00 – 2:30 and 3:00 – 4:30. You can sign up for the level 2 sessions by registering for a session at the front counter in the Fabrication Workshop.

3D Printing Showcase

The third annual 3D Printing Showcase will bring together the latest technology, ideas, innovations and experts under one roof. Day 1 will focus on research and education, while Day 2 will be an industry open day.

Exhibition: Transmit Outward

Dates: 18 September - 6 October 2015
Venue: Dulux Gallery, MSD

Transmit|Outward, Inflection’s annual exhibition for 2015, explores the theme of projection and its relationship to the creative process as a perpetual state of becoming.

Transmit|Outward questions pre-existing notions of the architectural exhibition through a combination of crowd-sourced submissions, installations and events.

Featuring work from international and Australian architects, academics, artists and students, the exhibition showcases pieces that respond to the theme of projection. These works will be presented alongside collaborative events that investigate creative possibilities latent within the design process.
