I can't quite believe that Christmas is nearly upon us (where's the year gone?) and hence it's time for the last newsletter of 2018.
At this time of the year, a key part of our business is restoration work with owners taking advantage of our cheaper winter labour rates to carry out major works. Also, it's a natural time of the year to take a car off the road and carry out extensive works in preparation for the spring or summer 'driving season'. This newsletter has details on work we're doing to a Lotus Elan +2 and a Morgan +8.
As we normally do, we'll close for the whole of the Christmas and New Year period and let the team recharge batteries and fully enjoy the Christmas break with family and friends. We'll close as of 4pm on Saturday 22nd December and re-open 8am on Wednesday 2nd January.

£2 million Lotus...?
An interesting article appeared in Autocar earlier this month. News of a project by Lotus to build a £2 million electric 'hypercar'...
Understandably, the project is shrouded in secrecy, but a concept is set to be revealed next year. This is yet more sign of the ambitions that new owners Geely have for Lotus, and the investment they're prepared to put into the company to place it firmly at the cutting edge of performance cars.

Lotus Elan +2 restoration

Prices of classic Lotus have increased rather rather nicely over the last few years. As a result, owners are deciding they're well worth restoring and we're taking on ever increasing amounts of restoration type work for these fabulous cars.
A project we have just started working on is a Lotus Elan +2. It's a very original car, but has been off the road since 1992 and lots of work and TLC is needed!

Elan +2 Restoration
The first stage in the process was to strip out the complete car so we can properly assess what can be refurbished, what needs replacing and what is fine to leave well alone. The interior has now been completely gutted, the body removed from the chassis, a full inspection carried out and a very long list(!) compiled of work required and parts needed.

Morgan renovation

We're currently part way through some major renovation work on a 1987 Morgan +8 which will look super when finished.
The interior will be completely stripped out and then fully retrimmed with the worn and tired looking stone leather being replaced with Muirhead black leather. As part of this process, the seats will be fitted with heater elements and converted to a sports style with greater side support. New black carpets will also be installed.
Other works include: a full service; brake overhaul; fitting a harness bar; attending to a myriad of minor but annoying electrical problems; converting the reverse lights to much more elegant and brighter LED combination reverse/fog lights; fitting a mesh grill and a few other cosmetic enhancements.
The main challenge now is time, as our goal is to finish this project for our customer before the Christmas break. There's still plenty to do, but we're currently on schedule!

Project Mini

If you fancy taking on a restoration project for your garage at home, Steve, one of our Technicians, has his classic Mini project which he's regretfully decided to sell. Basically he hasn't the time to see it through to completion (he tells me we're working him too hard!).

Breakfast Club

Our very successful Breakfast Clubs have been running for over 6 years. They take place on the first Saturday of the month, starting at 9:30am with bacon rolls and hot drinks, followed by a motoring themed talk or workshop
For our next breakfast club on Saturday 5th January, we won't have a theme as such. But instead we'll be firing up the BBQ and providing our normal bacon rolls along with hot drinks and cakes. So just a good excuse for a drive out and social catch up with like minded car enthusiasts.
