Cairns sets benchmark on ratesA recently conducted benchmarking process against 11 other Queensland councils revealed Cairns Regional Council has the lowest median residential rates charges of councils servicing a population of more than 100,000 people.
New bat enclosure to help flying fox carersCairns Regional Council has supported a proposal to build a flying fox care and release enclosure to assist bat carers to manage rehabilitated animals back into the wild. It is hoped that wild flying foxes that are currently within the CBD will be attracted to the enclosure as has been the case with similar enclosures established on the Tablelands. TNQ Innovation AwardsEntries for the Tropical North Queensland Innovation Awards (TNQIA) are open until 15 August, with judging to commence immediately after the closing date. Prizes include $2,000 cash for Major Award winners and $1,000 cash for Specialty and Inspiration Award winners. Winners will also receive a customised prize package including items such as advertising, team building experiences, mentoring and professional services. Compete on the ReefRegistrations are open for the 2019 Great Barrier Reef Masters Games, which will be held in Cairns on 23-26 May 2019. Last year, the Games attracted more than 1200 visitors to the region, as well as hundreds of local athletes. The Games will include a full social program, supported by The Jack hotel.
