Their willingness to just go with the flow and make do without fuss has certainly been a blessing to me. · The School Banking ladies, Dale Headlam and Patricia Matusiak, have been shunted from pillar to post and have done it with a smile. · Dorothy Gaunt, our dance teacher, has arrived at the school expecting to teach in the open space of the hall to be sent to the grassed area one week (waltzing was challenging) and the bitumen the next and yet has not uttered a word of complaint. · Senora Alveri hardly reacted when told her work space had to move either to a store room or a distant free classroom. · Those who work upstairs above the old music room have had to endure days of grinders, jack hammers and the very loud tools being used just below them. And yet, nary a word of complaint. · Taryn, our percussion tutor, would arrive at work each week and have to ask where the drum kit had moved to now! She moved base about four times in as many weeks. · The children have seemingly just got on with it. The Communications Ministry members have amazed me with their just-deal-with-it approach to changing venues, absent comperes and determination to overcome adversity. Children’s play flows without concern for the building works. Building Works The overall vision of what the block would be like is now a reality. It takes little to see how the play space has been enlarged and the hardcourt area ‘flows’ smoothly through to the southern grassed playing area. There is a sense of spaciousness compared to last week. Works underway at the moment: · New carpet will be laid at both ends of the hall due to the now exposed concrete that has come about through the expansion of the floor area. · The old staffroom is being prepared to house the teaching resources currently in the old computer room off the library. Upcoming works: · That old computer room will be converted into a classroom in the coming weeks. · The fenced off demolition site will be landscaped with a mix of paving and grass. · New AV equipment will be installed in the hall. · Signage will be installed. · The leaning basketball tower will be brought back to vertical. LAP - EXPRESSION OF INTEREST It focuses on the wellbeing, emotional and social needs of students through the powerful and positive contribution of trained mentors. All LAP volunteers must complete training to participate in the program. They must have a valid Working with Children Card, follow the OLG Code of Conduct and adhere to the requirements of Confidentiality. We are fortunate to have many volunteers at our school that are happy to commit to supporting children that would benefit from one to one time for half an hour each week. This time may be spent setting goals that will then be worked on to aim for successful learning in the classroom, it may involve the child pursuing a hobby, they may participate in confidence building activities, there are many possibilities on how the time is used. It does not involve tutoring or extra time for completion of school work. Potentially LAP:
Please contact Nerida Hince via the email below if you think your child would benefit from participating in LAP in 2018. Participation is voluntary, and the sessions may be ongoing, long term or short-term support/help. P & F AGM – Wednesday 28th November Please save the date and come along.
