Interim Chief Executive & Heads of School confirmed

Kia ora koutou,

I am very pleased to share with you our new Heads of School.

It is great to have these roles confirmed and ready to hit the ground running (with just one interim position). We are particularly happy that all but one appointment to date has been an existing member of the Unitec team. This allowed us to involve many of you in providing feedback and helping to select your Head of School.

There is a huge amount of expertise, teaching experience, and institutional knowledge amongst these individuals and all of us in the ELT are excited to be working with them in these new roles.

Speaking of the ELT, I am also happy to say that our Commissioner Murray Strong has confirmed my role as Interim Chief Executive through to the end of 2019. This is a strong indication that we are heading in the right direction and that we have the support and belief of key people and institutions down in Wellington.

Thank you for your support this year and I am excited for what we can achieve together in 2019.

Now, without further ado:

Heads of School

- Bridgepoint - Chris King
- Environmental and Animal Sciences - Dan Blanchon
- Community Studies - Katie Bruffy
- Applied Business - Kerry Kirkland
- Trades and Services - Lee Baglow
- Healthcare and Social Practice - Linda Aumua (former Unitec Director of
  Pacific )
- Engineering and Applied Technology - Nick Sheppard (Interim Head of
  School)
- Building Construction - Paul Jeurissen
- Architecture - Peter McPherson
- Creative Industries - Vanessa Byrnes

- Computing and Information Technology (including Director of
  HTTRN) -
Christian Probst

We also have two new interim positions to support key focus areas:

Interim Category One Lead - Debra Robertson-Welsh
Debra has done an amazing (and award winning) job helping us get ready for the EER and developing our renewed focus on academic quality. In this new role she will continue to lead our work to create a Category 1 culture, practices, and deliver an outstanding experience for our students. She will also support the new Heads of School.

Ahead of Linda Aumua’s arrival, Debra will cover the Head of School role for Healthcare and Social Practice at our Waitakere campus.

Interim CIE Projects and Quality Lead, Mark McNeil
Mark has been working on resolving some longstanding challenges within the CIE network. Despite the network now splitting to create three new Schools, it is vital that progress in these areas is not compromised and Mark will continue to lead this important work. He will also be involved with supporting the new Heads of School.

In two areas we have appointed Interim Programme Leaders/Managers:

Interim Programme Leader/Manager Bridging Education, Annemarie Meijnen
Interim Programme Leader/Manager Electrical Engineering, Melanie Ooi

These are areas which we believe will benefit from the expertise of two highly accomplished individuals and they will play key roles in assisting our new Heads of School team to define the long-term roles of Programme Leader/Managers. We expect all other Programme Leader/Manager appointments to be made by mid-2019 once those roles have been defined further.

Please join me in welcoming, congratulating, and supporting all the above staff members as they take on their new and critical roles.

Ngā mihi

Merran Davis
