Offside  May 2013

From the Editor

We’ve given Offside an update that’s mostly under-the-hood changes but with a fresh coat of paint to finish.

On Saturday I watched the Dimos Mastoris Shield and it’s always fantastic to see the football community united. It’s a touching story that I recommend you all to read.

Lastly, I wish Andrew all the best as he heads off to Football NSW.

As always, good luck out on the field.

- Gregory Calacouris

Pagewood Botany FC and Waverley Old Boys FC competed for the Dimos Mastoris Shield on Saturday, a tradition that dates back to 2005 when Mr. Mastoris died playing football, suffering a heart attack.

Mr. Mastoris, who was a Waverley College Old Boy, played for Pagewood Botany O35s. He collapsed on the field during a match between Pagewood Botany and Waverley Old Boys.

“It was a bit ironic at the time because he went to Waverley [College] as a schoolboy. He knew a lot of the guys we were playing against and he played for Pagewood,” teammate Sean Fenton said.
