We were also happy to invite Dostyk American International School to watch the performance. Please take a few minutes to fill out the 2018-2019 Parent Survey (https://bit.ly/2ULaJ2i). Thank you for your time and feedback!7YOC ScienceThe 7YO scientists have been learning about how animals help plants by moving seeds. They engineered model bird beaks out of a variety of materials and tested them by picking up different kinds of seeds. Then, they made graphs showing how many of each seed their beaks were able to pick up! Global School Play DayGlobal School Play Day was an enourmous sucess. All students took a period out of their busy scheudle to play, interact, and explor together. Dutch Mother Tongue ClassesAs in all language classes, one of the important goals in the Dutch mother tongue class is to expand vocabulary. Labeling words for concepts you already know in another language is something that will help students to be fluent in both (or all) languages the child has. We choose topics which are broad enough to interest all students and help them to expand vocabulary on their own level. This weeks in the four and five years old we received an e-mail from Mrs. Leandra’s friend, teacher Emmy, who asked the students to explain to her what Kazakhstan looked like as she didn’t know it at all! We made a word web and saw what we already knew. Then this vocabulary was expanded with all kinds of nice things to know about Kazakhstan. Did you know for example there is a very special cat, which only lives in this region? Well, the Dutch children know now, it is ‘the pallas cat’. We learned about climate, nature and transport during our lessons. While making a leaflet about Kazakhstan for ‘juf Emmy’ this week, they could show everything they had learned about these topics! Happy Chinese New YearThe 5-year-old class leaned about Chinese New Years this week and got to make authetic Chinese Dumplings! YUM!!
