Reflection

Father, into your hands I place my successes. Into your hands I also place my failures, and I pray that, through your Spirit, I may face the challenges of life with courage and determination. Help me to think anew and see things more broadly than in terms of “success” and “failure”. Lead me always to trust and place myself confidently in your hands. Amen.

Greg's Message

Dear Parents and Friends of St Anne’s

This year staff has decided to adopt the following quote from St Mary MacKillop:

“We must teach more by example than by word.” Certainly as educators our words are very important, but this quote challenges us to be role models; it challenges us to demonstrate by our actions that we care for, and believe, in all the students in our school. St Mary MacKillop’s words challenge us as parents too - we must aim to set an appropriate example for our children; to be “there” for them.

The Green Team received their badges at assembly on Tuesday. The Green Team consists of year 4 and 5 students who are passionate about looking after our school environment and beyond our school. Green team has made a fabulous start to the year, cleaning up our sandpit area and shovelling new, fresh sand into the pits.

A reminder that the students will be enjoying a long, long weekend, with school closed on Monday (Labour Day) and Tuesday as staff undertake first aid training. Don’t forget Year 1-6 parents about tonight’s parent information night.

Twilight Sports

Our whole school twilight sports will be held on Friday 19 March from 5pm until around 7pm. Traditionally we hold the twilight sports at Genazzano, but Genezzano aren’t allowing schools to utilise their grounds this term. We have been in discussions with the council regarding using one of the local parks; we are still awaiting a final response from them. The “back up” plan is to hold the twilight sports at school. I’ll let you know when the venue has been confirmed.

Religious Education

Last Tuesday at assembly our Faith and Social Justice leaders - Zaine, Jude and Marcus spoke about our social justice focus this term. It is Project Compassion run by Caritas for the six weeks of Lent.

Project Compassion is one of Australia’s longest running appeals, now in its 56th year, and the iconic donation boxes are a fixture in parishes and schools across the country.

Through Project Compassion, Australians have raised millions of dollars for marginalized communities worldwide.

At a time of such upheaval and challenge across the globe, possibly the greatest world-wide challenges since the inception of Project Compassion, Caritas Australia encourages all Australians to ‘Be More’ this year to help vulnerable communities.

“Project Compassion gives us the opportunity to show compassion for the poor in a special way, not just through material giving, but through spiritual giving,” said Bishop Terry Brady, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Sydney.

“We encourage all Australians to support their sisters and brothers across the world this Project Compassion, so that we can continue to work with communities during these challenging times to strengthen resilience and build a stronger, more equal future for all,” said Kirsty Robertson, CEO of Caritas Australia.

Project Compassion boxes are in all classrooms; if you’d like to have a box at home please contact the office. Thank you for your support.
