The implementation of Power Billing and Revenue Collection across the Eastern Health network represents a fantastic opportunity for Eastern Health to streamline its billing processes, bringing about positive change for both patients and staff. Improvements in patient experience are a major focus of the project, along with increases in revenue capture. We look forward to sharing the successful outcomes of this project in the coming months. PPM Mobile Research TrialPPM Mobile uses Bluetooth technology to accurately record the time clinical staff spend at each patient’s bedside. PowerHealth participated in a trial to test the assumption that poor patient experience is often linked to a lack of direct nursing time. Canada PPM Project Reaching Last MilestonePowerHealth’s Canadian PPM project is reaching the conclusion of the provincial costing implementation six months early. The Montreal team is currently finishing up on the provincial PPM deployments initiated in January 2018. Though the implementation phase is nearly completed, PowerSanté’s members are working hard to continue driving clinical engagement of the resulting information into individual establishments and making the healthcare network and the CDO autonomous. The CDO is the operationalisation and development government organisation which will be ultimately responsible for maintaining and developing Patient Costing in Quebec and is taking on more and more responsibilities. In the past three months, PHS’ team has been keeping busy implementing a provincial Submission Framework (SSRC) process, which will feed the Ministry of Health’s database (SI-CPSS); deploying the provincial Benchmark Portal, which will allow comparability of cost results and various indicators amongst healthcare establishments; and delivering studies to lay the groundwork for ABF on topics such as Ambulatory Classification Systems, Imagery Data Quality, Financial Database for validation and normalization, I-CLSC and others. Out and About - ConferencesPCSI 34th Annual Conference, CopenhagenIn mid-November Patrick Power and Serge Boulard attended the PCSI 34th Annual Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. The conference theme was ‘Activity-based and value-based healthcare - connecting the dots’ and it provided an excellent forum for Patrick to share the learnings and achievements of PowerSante’s recent work. Patrick presented on, ‘Patient costing and its value in Canadian healthcare’, with a focus on how timely data and clinical engagement significantly enhances the value derived from clinical costing information. HFMA Victoria State Conference, LorneRobert Lawson and Nikhil Patwardhan enjoyed spending time with the HFMA Australia community in Lorne mid-November, where they chatted to attendees about all things costing, billing and budgeting. Informatique Santé Conference, QuébecFor a second year in a row, PowerSanté had a booth at the Informatique Santé Conference, which took place in Drummondville, Québec in early November. This year’s topic, “Digital Technology Supporting Patients”, encouraged discussion on digital transformation within the Quebec healthcare network, telehealth and security, as well as transparency and clinical data mining. The PowerSanté members answered the visitors’ questions regarding the CPSS (costing) project and showcased the provincial benchmark portal, a tool never seen before in Quebec, which will allow comparability of cost results and various indicators amongst healthcare establishments. Québec Medical Association Conference, MontrealDr. Pierre Gagné, MD, MSc, FRCP(C), PowerSanté’s expert clinical consultant, was a guest speaker at the AMQ (Quebec Medical Association) conference organised for physicians who are also managers. This Montreal-based conference took place on November 29th and Dr. Gagné focussed his presentation on the essential role physicians can play in using Patient Costing information to improve patient care.

The session covered the core modules of GL Setup, Data Load and Cost Dataset. The class was oversold so remember to book early! This topic was selected by our PowerHealth community through an online poll. Thanks to everyone for their active participation. We are already planning more training sessions for the new year, so please keep an eye out for more details. The PowerSante team are looking forward to conducting their last PPM training for the year, and a data analysis training day in December. PPM Training at PHS Adelaide PowerHealth Values AwardsPowerHealth recently underwent a review of our Company Values. As a part of the roll out of the updated company values we have introduced a ‘Value of the Month’ Award. At the end of the month the Values Working Group will determine a winner. Our first Value of the Month was ‘Results’ and our inaugural winner was Sahani Gunasekara, who received the highest number of ‘thanks’ linked to ‘results’ from her peers. Next month we will be focussing on ‘Integrity’. Vanessa (Human Resources Manager) congratulates Sahani on winning the inaugural PowerHealth Values Award PowerHealth Annual Christmas Desk Decorating CompetitionAdelaide OfficeIt’s become an annual tradition and the standard of Christmas desk decorating this year did not disappoint. Congratulations to PowerHealth PBRC team members, Louise Deal and Frank LaFratta who both competed in the 2019 games held in Adelaide in October. Dragon Boat RacingLouise took part in the Dragon Boat racing. Lou has been paddling with Adelaide Phoenix Dragon Boat Club for two months and the Masters was the first time she had participated in a race. Her small team entered in 10 races. They unfortunately they did not win any medals but placed in every race. Lou noted that the Singapore teams were the standout competitors and won almost every event over the two days of competing. There were more than 1000 dragon boat participants registered, many of whom travelled from interstate and abroad to Adelaide to compete.. TaekwondoFrank took part in the Taekwondo competition. Not only did he walk away with the Gold Medal for this category, but unfortunately also a broken middle finger! Frank’s gold medal play off consisted of two rounds. Frank broke his finger in the first round, but heroically continued on and won the fight. Frank has been learning taekwondo for three years and was training for the competition for just eight weeks. Despite his triumph Frank notes the Masters may possibly be his first and last competition. We wish Frank all the best as he currently recovers from finger surgery.
