Apples For Students

The Giant Eagle Apples for Students Program wrapped up this year on March 18th. Funds will be awarded as a check to the school.  Sacred Heart earned 1,973 points this year. Thanks to all the supporters of the program and to Jennifer Yurkiewicz for coordinating the program for the school. You can begin earning points for the 2017-18 school year beginning September 1st.

Parent Lunch Program

Look in the family envelope this month for the Parent Lunch form for next year.  Note that each family will be required to come in seven times, and the fee has increased from $90 to $120. More working families coupled with an increase in families who choose to pay, have made extending parent help through four quarters very tricky.  Please make your choice on the lunch form and return by May 22nd. If you can find  a way to come in, your children love seeing you and it provides the supervision and assistance needed in the cafeteria and on the playground.

Summer Camp

If your child is entering grades K-2 next year, consider a week or two of the Creative Kids Camp here at Sacred Heart the weeks of June 12 and 19.  It is a fun way to stay connected with friends and meet new friends.  Lots of fun activities are planned with a holiday theme.  The registration form is available on our website.

Fees Owed

Some families will have in their monthly envelope an accounting of any fees owed for Afterschool, Band, Parent Lunch, and Lunch Tickets.  Please bring your accounts up to date by May 19 for Grade 8 and May 22 for K-7.  Thank you.

Lunch Ticket Refund

Send any unused lunch tickets in an envelope marked with your child’s name and homeroom.
You will be refunded $2.25 for each ticket returned.  All 2016-17 tickets must be refunded before school is over. Grades K, 8, and Preschool must turn in tickets on May 30th. Grades 1-7 must turn in tickets on June 1st and 2nd.

One sided-scrap paper is always needed at the school.  Drop-off is accepted at the office.  Thank you!

Polo shirts and shorts

Beginning on May 1, students can wear polo shirts and uniform shorts. Polos should be white or navy blue without logos, other than the Sacred Heart logo.  Other colors of blue, e.g., royal and light blue should not be worn.  Shorts should be navy blue for grades 1-8, with a khaki option for students in grades 6-8. Ties are not required during May and June.

4th Grade Lenten project

The fourth graders took part in the Math-a-thon for St Jude's Hospital during Lent.  St. Jude's Hospital provides services for children who have cancer.  Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food.

Twenty-nine students, with support from their families, collected a grand total of $3,011!  Thank you to our Sacred Heart children for sacrifices they made to help other children and their families in time of great need.

SchoolKidz

This year, our school is once again participating in the SchoolKidz Teacher Tailored School Supply Kit Program.  It is an easy and convenient solution for parents to meet the back-to-school needs of our students.  Kits are available to order online for each grade, filled with the specific school supplies requested by our teachers.  Kits are personalized and include a sheet of name labels for each child.  And everything is delivered directly to school so students are ready on the first day.  Pricing is below retail, saving you money.

Best of all, the program eliminates the aggravation, time, and hassle of running store-to-store to find all of the items that you need (and a lot that you don't!).  More than that, you can also order other supplies at discounted prices during the sale -- backpacks, lunchbags, water bottles, and more.  A portion of the proceeds of this sale will benefit the PTG.  Look for a flyer in this month's envelope for additional details.

PTG Elections

We would like to welcome nominations for the 2017 - 2018 Parent Teacher Guild (PTG). Please feel free to nominate yourself or someone else. We will check with nominees before putting them on the ballot.

Nominations are being accepted for Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer and 3 level representatives ( one each for K-2nd, 3rd - 5th, and 6th - 8th. Nominations can be submitted by emailing Jane Cavanaughj at janec123@yahoo.com  with PTG Nominations in the subject line. Nominations are due by May 12, 2017.

Our PTG is more than just a fundraising committee; our key mission is to promote an environment at school where teachers and administrator can do their best work and our children can do their best learning.

Research shows that students whose parents are involved in their education have better grades, fewer discipline problems, and greater interest in school.  Volunteering also makes it easier to get to know teachers and other parents.

Please contact either Jane Cavanaugh or Elisa Brienza if you have any questions.

We will also once again be selling “Sacred Heart Kennywood Day” t-shirts.  Make a memory, show school spirit, and easily spot all your Sacred Heart friends in the crowd.  Please look for an order form to come home in this month’s family envelope.  Orders are due May 5th in order to receive them in time for Kennywood Day.  Unlike last year, t-shirts will only be offered via the pre-sale so make sure to reserve one for everyone in your family!

May food and food for summer months

In conjunction with Sacred Heart Parish, the school will collect rice to be contributed to the food bank run by the East End Cooperative Ministry.

In the summer, the following food items are also being accepted:  macaroni and cheese, cereal and hamburger helper.

Each month, the Christian Leadership Team members encourage all of us to contribute a different featured food to share with our neighbors in need. Thank you for your support.
