A BLUE DO in September is the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s annual awareness and fundraising campaign to help eliminate death and suffering from prostate cancer to our fathers, brothers, sons, grandfathers, husbands, and mates.

A Blue Do can be any sort of activity and is a great way to get friends, whānau and work colleagues involved in the fight against prostate cancer.  Find out more...

 

This week in NZ history...

1928 — First Trans-Tasman flight touches down   Australian pilots Charles Kingsford Smith and Charles Ulm crossed the Tasman in a Fokker tri-motor named the Southern Cross, covering 2670 km in 14 hours 25 minutes.

1981 — 'Flour-bomb test' ends Springbok tour  The third and deciding rugby test at Eden Park, Auckland, is best remembered for the flares and flour bombs dropped onto the playing field. Outside the ground, violence erupted on an unprecedented scale.

A big congratulations, Mike Galloway!

Mike continues to add titles to his already illustrious list of titles.  Yesterday, Bowls NZ announced Mike as the joint recipient of the Summerset Male Player of the Year alongside Lance Pascoe.

About our clubs

Carlton Cornwall Bowls — established 1893

Carlton’s immediate forebear, the Newmarket Bowling Club, came into being in 1893, mainly out of frustration with the shortcomings of the old facilities. Several members of the earlier Club decided to set up a new and much larger bowling facility in the district & acquired the lease to a portion of the borough reserve opposite the old bowling and tennis club.

 

Four rinks were laid down and the complex was ready for play within the year.   Read more here...

September 1-5 Year events postponed

As Auckland remains in Alert Level Four to at least Tuesday 14 September, we have postponed all 1-5 Year events to be played in September.  We will announce new dates once we have better certainty on moving down alert levels.   

Auckland Rep Day:
1-5 Year

Originally scheduled for 3 October, 
this event has been rescheduled to 
7 November. 

It will still be played at North Harbour.
