Dear Brookes Westshore Families,

As many of you are aware, BC has been very proactive in managing the COVID-19 pandemic to this date. As a result, we received a positive update from the Ministry of Education indicating that, as we anticipated, a September opening will take place. The ministry has provided guidelines on how schools should reopen, and we will be meeting in the next couple of weeks to discuss how this will look at Brookes. However, in the meantime, we are confidently excited to move forward for an early return in August for a September start.

Graduation from Brookes

It is the time of year when students begin to think about their final Grade 12 Diploma and transcripts. I want to share the following information with you to ensure you as parents have a better understanding of the graduation options for students at Brookes. 

We are an IB school and all subjects we teach are IB curriculum. The BC Ministry of Education has evaluated these courses and has provided IB schools in BC with the necessary course codes to apply their IB studies towards a BC Dogwood Diploma. In BC the high school diploma is referred to as a Dogwood or Dogwood Diploma.

All students who successfully complete the Grade 12 academic program will receive a BC Dogwood Diploma.   

IB Diploma students who are enrolled in the full IB programme earn the BC Dogwood and the IB Diploma.

At least 30% of our students are not enrolled in the full diploma but they do take several IB subjects. They will receive a transcript of their IB results from the IBO in addition to their BC Dogwood Diploma. 

The requirements for the BC Dogwood Diploma is a total of 80 credits (Grade 10-12), completion of the BC Grade 10 numeracy assessment, Grade 10 and 12 Literacy Assessment, Career Life Connections (4 credits) and Career Life Education (4 credits), and a Capstone Project.
